Help!!

As you may have noticed, I asked Robin if this forum could be expanded to Cummins/Diesel Conversion as there is some pretty exciting things happening in the diesel world.

Does this mean that I am not a Cummins fan? The answer is that Cummins has always been my favorite. I am just trying to expand the forum for a well rounded picture of whats happening in the ever changing diesel world.

One of the units I have been intrigued with is Yanmars new line of marine repower units. They are replacing V8 gassers with turbo 4 bangers in offshore boats. These little replacement units are beating the gassers out of the hole, on to plane and top end. And all on half the fuel!

It amazes me that all the naysayers are bad mouthing diesels and yet the strides that have been made in the last 10 years are astounding.

I look forward to this forum and I hope it is as much fun as the TH&RV forum.

Let's get after it!

I'm a Cummins fan, not a Yanmar fan, but... .

My next door marina neighbor replaced his twin Mercruiser gas engines (Chevy 350 at 250 hp each) with Yanmar 4 cyl at 170 hp.

He gets about the same performance on about 1/4 the fuel consumption.

And you can hardly hear the engines run. Yanmars are sooo quiet.

Is'nt that amazing. The only real problem is the COST of the repower. They were quoting me around $18K for the swap.

Yea, he spent about 28 K (net) for the complete job (4 years ago). That doesn't include labor because he did everything himself. He got about 1800 each for his old engines.
