Mike Ellis asked me about this, there is (at least) One Builder that does Vehicles in a Quality that is comparable to our European Overland Vehicles, custom built.

https://overlandex.com/

A friend of mine, a German that lives in Canada, bought one of the unit built to him.
The Builder itself was with Him on a journey through Germanys most important Companys in this Business.
So he knows first Hand how we do this and how it is properly done to build a real long lasting Camper.

I was at the truck shop getting my annual inspection the other day, when in rolls a RV on a Dodge ProMaster chassis. I was interested in this unit, so I engaged the owner while we waited. I believe the RV was Orion, and she had nothing nice to say about the build quality of the unit. The chassis is decent, and only had one transmission issue that took 7 weeks to fix, but while the body is nicely laid out, it’s built like garbage. I did notice it only had a class II hitch on the back. She has been on I81 with it where it got along well on the hills.

Wayne there is also a lot of garbage on the road over here, we call it white ware, cheap built and sold to the masses.
this thread is for the overland vehicles that is a completely different Liga.

the Orion is just another cheap US brand, not worth to mention.

we have a saying in German for this - "Pressen und Vergessen"

Might check out 'Earthroamer'. Built in Colo. and the owner started with a Dodge/Cummins and was a TDR member/writer for a while.

Yes I remember when he started those (earthroamer) he use to come to our local chapter meetings once in awhile. He sold out to whomever at some point then they switched to fords. I just saw one locally the other day and when I got home I went on their website a new one starts at $490k and goes up from there with a $50K deposit required to start the build. The heavy duty model is $1.5 million.

earthroamer is by the price far away from the common people and they do serial production on Ford CC.

The business i mentioned does cabins on every vehicle you deliver to them and exactly like YOU want it. and for an affordable price.

That company has some neat stuff. I really like the detachable cabin, but the one on the white Chevy (WHY) seems to be nicest. The trailer is neat too if you prefer to pull something.

For offroad use, it's hard to beat a dually with a slide in camper. Whenever I've looked at purpose built vehicles, I don't like the layout.
