Experiences with Cooper Discoverer Tires?

[Buffalo]

I've heard some good & bad things about the Cooper Discoverer line of tires. They have some nice looking tread patterns.

I live in the Desert (Phoenix, AZ. ) & was wondering if the excessive heat is causing them premature tire failure?



Any of you guys have experience with them? I'd be very interested in hearing your thoughts & suggestions.

I've been using coopers for a while. I'm north of you in a little cooler weather and have not had premature tire failure happen to me. However; I am on my first set of discoverers. I will let you know if anything happens this year.

Had mine(33" Cooper Discoverer S/T) on for about 6 months and love them. They balance a lot better than my BFG's and are wearing very well.

I had a set of Discover STs on the 04. We had some Discover STs and Mastercrafts (made by Cooper) on the company trucks. They have been good tires, albeit excessive heat is seldom a problem here abouts in NW WY.

I've had my LT285/70R17 Discoverer STT's since early March, and they've been great. They were on the truck for about 2 weeks before I went on a 1600 mile round trip to Orlando, FL... ... a little noisey on the road, but they balance out great and are vibration free. I previously ran LT33x12. 50R17 Mastercraft Courser C/T's with equally good results.

My truck had Cooper H/T tires on the rear when I bought it. On the second set of ST tires. First set was stock size. Now have 235-85-16. Great all 'round tire, on or off-road. Wear well.

I have been running 35x12. 5x17 STT's for a few months. I have about 300 miles off road on them. I hammered them pretty hard on a recent Baja trip, and they held up well. They are definitely a softer compound then the Toyo Open Country MT's I had prior. I had lacerations completely through a few lugs. Not unexpected when driving at 70 across rocky dirt roads, but I think the Toyos are a tougher tire. They also are a tougher tire to find. I would not hesitate on buying another set of Coopers though. The Goodyear MTR is a pretty tough tire as well.

Boy you're right about availability of Toyo's. I'm trying to get some "E" rated 285-70-17 A/T's and customer service says their on perpetual backorder. Express tire and a friend are trying to find some for me. Finding that elusive "E" rated tire for my camper is a tough one. I wish Cooper made an "E" for me in my desired size. Nice to buy an American product. Toyo's American plant is about ready to fire up hopefully. Discount tires told me they will carry Toyos when they can supply 600+ stores.

Tell Express tire to buy them from Les Schwab and get a warranty and road side through them. Might cost you alot more this way but at least you would have them. i run 235/85r16 discoverer atr's. i love them. no problems. decent price. i wish i could have afforded a set of michelen tires though. but they are great for the price.

I phoned the L. S. in Stockton and they had 4 in stock. I've got an Express tire guy on it here in San Diego. He says district rep. will find me some. I wonder about cost though barleysoda as I mentioned your price. Thanks, hopefully the tire manufacturers will acknowledge a need for "E" rated tires for these beasts with campers or stock.

I love my Coopers! I have stock LT265/70R17E's Discoveerer STT's on mine, and they are awesome! I had some Cooper S/T's and those where great also! Cooper is my top choice in tires for my cars and trucks IMHO.

I have the stock size S/T's and they really grab the pavement, but they also cost me 1 mpg over the factory BFG's...
