Yesterday I reset my pump timing. The original "1/8" method only yeilded and increase from stock (assumed to be 1. 25mm) to 1. 33mm. This had helped decrease the smoke from the PODs but not as much as I would have liked. So using a timing gauge I reset it to 1. 5mm. Smoke was worse than the stock timing (the west nile virus spray vehicle was back!) The overal power seemed to be off a bit but not much. Max boost dropped from 25 max psi to 22 max psi. Needles to say I was quite disappointed after the three hour ordeal I had just gone through.

Today I decided to play with the eccentric before diving back into the timing. The stock setting on the eccentric pin was about 1/8 turn from the lowest setting. I turned it another 1/4 turn from that. At the same time there was a lot of what seems to be a waxy build up on everything inside the eccentric pin area. I cleaned this up best I could.

To my delight there is now almost zero smoke at idle, power is up a little (can spin the tires off the line by flooring it) EGTs are the same, max boost is still 22psi BUT in third at 20psi I'm over 70mph @ 2600rpm.

So why did my smoke go away? (not that I'm complaining, would be nice to use the heater again :D )

Okay, I think I can help you with that Dave..... first, take that lame turbo off your truck and give it to me . . :) then, take every second injector out and put in plug. That will reduce your smoke a fair bit. . ;);)

Jay, you got a bit of a mystery there.....

I also saw a tiny bit of boost reduction when I had my timing bumped up. . like you, not much, but some.

I saw a reduction in smoke over all, but the smoke I did have had a bit of a strong acrid smell to it, still does.

The inside of the AFC housing should be free of grime and dirt. There is a breather on the back side of the pump, just above the fuel solenoid. It has a black rubber cover with a little tiny rubber tube attached. The filter, as I heard it, is horse hair.

Now,... . perhaps the grimy deposts were causing your fuel delivery to be off???:confused:

The little pin inside there must be free to move in and out with its' full range of motion. Some even get stuck in the "IN" position, this usually results in low power complaints though...

Rotating the diaphram a little more is why you have seen an improvment in your overall power/boost. It may also have caused your pin to make more overall travel and freed it up. If it was sticky then it's possible it held the delivery cone from returning properly. That's just a wild guess mind you.

On the up side, you fixed it... . bonus !!!!

Lame turbo? Oh, I get it now. Sure you want it, I just got done polishing it.

Every other injector? Is that what you did? I thought so. I guess you had to do it because you only got ONE tire pushing your truck around.

so there

Lame turbo my bu##

Boy, the stuff I have to put up with around here. :{
