You have 3 years bumper to bumper and 7 years on the powertrain. Do you really need to buy extended warrantee on the new truck?

According to my wife, it will be classed as an historic vehicle before I get another one. :(

I plan on keeping this one till a new body style,if I like it.

I had a 96,then saw Qcab in 98. 5 w/24V,now this.

They were asking $1400 and I talked them down to $1000. Seeing as how I'm supposed to take it to the issuing dealer for extended warranty work, and have since found out their LYING, INCOMPETENT IDIOTS, I think I've wasted my money.

Buying an extended warranty is like buying insurance. You're betting that something bad will happen, and the company selling you the warranty or insurance policy is betting that it won't. I don't buy extended warranties and have yet to regret it.

It seems to me that most problems should be resolved before the 3 year 36,000 mile warranty expires, so I am going to gamble that my 2003 will be a non-lemon after that.

Sorry guys, back to the real subject: I bought an ext. warranty for my 96 because I gave no cash down when I bought it. It seemed wise then to protect myself financially for the first 3 yrs (at 40,000 km a year). It cost me CDN $1,500 and saved some minor repairs and a CDN $2,2000 auto transmission repair. You get the picture.

With the 2003, it's a different story (I weight more, financially and physically :D and bet on the 6 spd and the powertrain off-the-shelf waranty). No ext. warranty needed. :D

Hey Task

I got the extended "full coverage" warranty on my 97 and it paid off after putting 78k miles on the rig. The only extended warranties offered by our local 5 star dealer are from DC and are good anywhere in the US of A.

I got an 03 on Friday and also got the "bumper to bumper" extended warranty for the 7 yr/100k miles. This one covers about everything excelp brake shoes and wipers. Every vehicle I have ever owned has had problems in the "extended" part of the coverage and has more than paid for itself. The pricing of the warranties depend on the deductable you choose $0. 00, $50, or $100. The best deal is probably on the warranty that covers about 90% of the vehicle's parts.

I realize that some of the people on this site are very good mechanics and can do their own work, I'm not blessed in this way. I had one of the old 7100 pumps replaced under the extended warranty and this one item alone costs twice what the warranty cost. I think I have the breakdown if you want it and I can find it on the actual costs of the different coverages.
