Worn Shocks

first towing vacation

I had the first opportunity to see the benefit of an extended hitch pin. I had to do a pretty tight u-turn at the camp site I was staying at. I looked out the driver's side window and there's the trailer. As far as I could tell I still had about 6 inches of clearance. What that tells me is that I'm not going to be touching truck and trailer unless I turn the truck into the trailer. That's nice to know.

I've found that my Qcab long bed can't turn tight enough (going forward) to have the trailer hit the bumper with a regular length hitch...

Backing up is another matter

When fishing for a few days I off load the camper but leave the 48 inch extension on to save loading time when loading to leave for home base. It makes it a bit harder to back down ramps and I get tired of answering questions about it but it sure keeps the boat away from the truck. If I take the boat trailer off I have to remove the extension because it becomes a spear. One added benefit, I don't have to wade in water while launching or recovering the boat.
