I'm looking for an idle-up servo or another way to idle a 2001 Ram for extended time without combustion temps dropping. Does anyone use their exhaust brake this way? How long can the exhaust brake be left on? I wish the PTO input would raise the idle when activated like the GM, oh well. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

I do leave the truck running with the exhaust brake one sometimes as long as 1/2 hour to 45 minutes. The exhaust temps never go over 450deg on my truck, and never had a problem so far.
If you look over at the 'products' forum, you'll see Practical Solutions has developed a high idle kit for our 24v Rams.

I use an electronic idle control. In 20 degree temps it keeps the eng water temp about 150 degrees at 1125 RPM. I've used it for up to 12 hours at a time. Lab test shows no fuel in oil. I don't use my jake brake for this purpose. Jake is on push button switch on gear shift, and button has to be held to operate. Tell tail is that there is no cloud of carbon or unburned fuel when I take off now.

I use my exhaust brake for warm up and sometimes extended idle times as well. My pre-turbo EGT's stabilize at 600 degrees and I've had it idling for up to an hour with no overheating problems in 90 degree heat.

Before I had my e-brake, I built a idle control that really worked well when warming her up. I just adjusted the idle to around 1200 rpm's and after several minutes the temp. was up and I had heat. Now I use the e-brake. I used it tonight at work (unable to plug in), the outside temp. was 20F and the truck was sitting for 9 Hours. After 10 mins. of idle with the brake on, my water temp. was up to 170 and I had plenty of heat in the cab. Here's a pic. of my "caveman idle control". Hope this helps !!!

I use my Pacbrake for warm up and as long as 5hrs. while sleeping, egt. 400* and water temp. 190*. Cummins and Pacbrake both told me this ok. I have Practical Solutions High Idler, and it along with the Pacbrake, has cut down warm up time from 10min. to 5min. at 20* temp.

I like the fancy solutions and will eventually get one. For now I have a 6 dollar gadget I found at a truck stop. It hooks to the dashboard and pushes on the go pedal with a very simple adjustable setting.

This is easier to operate than vice grips.
