I am getting ready to purchase a new Mega Cab this week. What are your thoughts on the extended warranty? I know that we are our own warranty station, but I am concerned about the new fuel systems and emissions junk.

A warranty covering the drive train, fuel system, ac and a bunch of other stuff to 100K miles is $1,700 from DCX and $1,400 from another supplier.

What do you think?

I got the extended on my 04 and sure as xxxx at just a few miles over 3 yr 36 my power brake master cylinder went out. started pumping atf into cab on floor. replacement $1000 plus off warrenty, big run around with extended warrenty, is dealer specific kinda. if u get the factory u might be better off. thats the way i'd go in the future. finally got my money after 6 or 8 phone calls. paid for the warrenty so i'm good with that

good place to buy one

I got my factory extended service contract from www.chryslerservicecontracts.com they are genuine chrysler not some bogus aftermarket waste of money. I was not able to find any local dealers to match their prices. They are a dealership that sells them in volume to provide the discounted prices. Mine is going in next week for some warranty work and without this I would not get a free rental. there are other things that come with it as well such as hotels and towing etc.

Did you by the service contract when you bought the vehicle?

What level of service did you purchase?

Warranty

I gave the dealership that I got my truck from the chance to match it and they were not able to. I think you get 1 year or so to add the warranty after you make your purchase without any added fees. I purchased my truck in March or April and added the warranty a few weeks ago. I went with the 7/70

I have alot of electronics in my truck such as DVD and NAV so it was worth it to me.

I have bought 2 service contracts from Chryslerservicecontracts.com on Jeepstang's recommendation. As he stated, they have some of the best prices around. Michael is the one heading the program for that dealer and his service is stellar. He is a pleasure to work with and he really has saved me $$$ on these contracts for my 06 Ram and 05 Town and Country.

For the Town and Country (67k miles) which already had a SC warranty to 70k, he was able to get me an extended chrysler warranty past the 70k miles from the Powertrain and 1st maximum care 70k warranty. I am now covered for another 5 years and up to 117k miles or so. I did not know Chrysler had these "used" type warranties.

Some warranty companies will only pay $x. xx for covered parts, leaving the customer with the deficit. Some warranty companies will only pay $x. xx per hour labor rate, leaving the customer with the deficit. Some warranty companies will not cover oil, transmission fluid, differential fluid, coolant, etc. ; guess what, the customer pays the deficit. Other items not covered, in some instances, are sales tax on the parts and alignments.

Just be sure to read your warranty coverage carefully... .....

Always use the Factory backed service contracts. They have YOU as a vested customer. The aftermarket ones most always are trying to save a nickel and really could give a crap less. No one EVER requests such and such extended service contract company other then factory ones when thinking about buying ones. Remember its NOT a warranty and is handled like a insurance claim and goverened under insurance laws and regulations. As like ANY insurance you may not ever use it or it may pay fr itself three times over.

I believe that extended warranties are worth while getting on these new trucks with all the electronic gadgets in them. However, don't pay full board price for it. Warranties are highly negotiable. I got mine for half of the asking price.

Through the Dodge service contracts site, you can purchase a contract right up to your 3/36 expiration day. It still goes back to your in service date but you can hold off for now and make sure you got a good truck.
