For those of you that just purchased your trucks, what, if anything, were you offered for extended warranties and what is the pricing like? Do you have any recommendations?

Mine was placed on the rail-car yesterday.

Hi Craig -- I had a genuine Chrysler Service Contract that I bought online for my 2005 Dodge Ram. Was the BEST decision I ever made and I'm NOT a fan of these generally. They must have paid out over $4,000 in repairs on the contract and I paid about $1,250 for the 7/70,000 max care plan with $0 deductible. Only get the Max Care plan. It's the best.

I bought it here: CHRYSLER SERVICE CONTRACTS: Extended Warranties from Chrysler. SAVE 60%! Quick Quotes. Buy Online.

I think my salesman was Michael Case but I'm not sure he's still running it. I am getting ready to buy one from them shortly once the dust settles on my finances after closing on this truck.

Good luck!

yes i have a midle policy and it sucks!! Get the largest one or none. the middle is still a 100 per pop, and i am near 1K!!!!!!!!!

I just bought a new 2010 Ram 3500 DRW Laramie up in Anchorage, AK and purchased a MaxCare warranty 84 months/100K Miles with a $100 deductible for $3080. 00. Its been many years since I have bought an extended warranty so hopefully I DO NOT get burned on this one. I guess I wont know how well it works until after the factory warranty is up in 3 years.

What's nice about the maxcare policy is that you're entitled to a first-day rental -- even for maintenance that has nothing to do with a repair -- even while you're under your factory warranty. So if you go in for an oil change, tire rotation maybe an alignment, you can get a rental car for no charge for the day. it's great if your dealer is far away and this is a feature you can start using now.

Wow! I was unaware of the rental car policy. I will remember to use that feature when I have the truck in the shop. Is that rental car feature available all the way up to the 84 months or 100K miles whichever comes first?

Whats nice about the Chrysler MaxCare policy is that it actually covers the truck bumper to bumper, except for wear items like brakes and clutches, etc.

I got my 7 year/100k MaxCare right before my 3 year/36k ran out. It cost, IIRC, $2350, including a refund premium which would have returned my cost of the warranty (except the refund premium of about $100) if I did NOT use it for some reason by the end of the coverage period. Since I have already almost paid for the warranty by using it by having the dealer repair the HVAC, shocks, track bar, and still likely expect them to have to replce hub units and/or BJ, let alone anything else, I am also happy that I got mine, thpough like other posters here, I am generally NOT a fan of these extended warranties. Particularly the mid grade ones that EXCLUDE all sorts of parts... those are definitely NOT worth buying.

YES:

FIRST DAY RENTAL/CAR RENTAL ALLOWANCE:

Coverage starts on the date you purchase the Plan and is not subject to a deductible. First Day Rental Allowance provides $35 car rental allowance if the vehicle is to be

serviced for any same day mechanical or maintenance service.

And here's another kicker. I paid $1250 for mine from the selling agent I listed above in this thread. I used it for 2 years and traded my truck at 5 years and 43k miles (low mileage driver). I called Chrysler Service Contracts and asked them about my cancellation options and they said that it doesn't matter how much they pay out on the policy for me to get a refund. I know they paid out over $4,000 had I had to pay myself (new a/c, new blower, new condenser, new compressor, new turn signal switch, etc... . ) and yet I'm going to get a $518 refund on the policy.

It's based on the unused time or mileage (in my case, my plan is a 7/70,000).

It's pretty amazing.

This link to Chrysler Service Contracts had the best pricing BY FAR! Beat my local dealer silly!!! IF you want to buy an extended contract, these guys are the way to go!!

Vehicles are not eligible

If you read the 5/100, 7/70 & Lifetime warranties, they all have an "Eligible Vehicle" section that has exclusions. This is the exclusion that makes these warranties useless to Dodge Ram trucks: "vehicle used for towing... ".

My 7/70 factory warranty doesn't exclude towing.

I actually purchase mine for half price or I would't buy it. Dealers will work with you on the price

Ok. That company is a reseller then? I was thinking the program was sold direct from Dodge, ah, Chrysler, ah, Fiat, whoever.

Ok then I'll give it a look, thanks

That link in post #2 is to a authorized chrysler / dodge / jeep dealer who has set up a site specifically to market GENUITE chrysler service contracts at discount prices.

I've compared -- they're selling them at or near dealer cost. You can't go wrong. Be sure you get a maxcare plan as the intermediate plan isn't really a great value.

Good luck!

I got the Chrysler MaxCare on my first 3rd gen and my second that I currently own. I took my first truck in to have them look at a few issues I noticed... . They ended up doing: Upper/lower ball joints, Steering box, TIPM module, Drivers seat lumbar adjuster knob and the complete drivers door window/mirror switch assembly. That would have costed me over $4k but in reality I only paid the $100 deductible. That warranty paid for itself the first time... . No questions asked. When I bought my first 3rd gen it had 40k on it and the dealership allowed me to put it back under warranty even though the original 3yr/36k warranty expired. Now with my 2nd 3rd gen truck... It had only 17k on it when I bought it but the 3 years had past and it was 8 months since it expired... Once again, Dealership had no issue giving me a extended warranty, It's as good as if you just drove it off the showroom floor. Anyone who owns a CTD should not balk at the idea of a Chrysler MaxCare warranty... . After all, What's a few grand compared to what you've paid for your truck.

I made the decision to be self insured when it came to an extended warranty. since buying my truck new ... I have been saving $100 a mth. So I now have about $2,000 in the bank to be used for sudden emergency events. I am still putting the money in. Havent needed it yet thank you God but it is there. I feel better about paying myself from the first day knowing that after the third year I would be on my own. The money is mine, it is making interest and there will be no sudden expense worry. Just my opinion.
