How many have purchased the Extended Warranty that takes the 36 month 3 yr to a full 7 year, 75,000 for their 03??.

With all the computer stuff that could go haywire I thought it might be worth it.

Ray,

I bought the extended warranty too - I think mine covers 5 yrs, 100,000 mi. There is no way to tell if it is a good deal. Like all insurance you hope ypu never need it. Ain't this a great truck!

I went with the 5 Year 100k Mile, since I put about 20k to 25K on a truck per year. The added security helps as long as the bombing stays to a minimum :D .

I decided to skip it. I worry a bit about all the computer stuff, but for the price of the warranty, I figured it might take a couple problems before it paid for itself.

It's a roll of the dice. If you pay to have all the service done, it's probably worth it. If you do all your own work, you may come out ahead without it.

We Got the 7/100k Plan

Just before we traded and just after the warranty expired on our 99, we paid 1700 for the replacement of the vacuum pump. Decided then that we would spring for the warranty especially since it was transferrable. Jury is still out on whether it is worth it this time however.

I would highly recommend the factory Daimler-Chrysler contracts the aftermarket policies aren't as comprehensive, and are much harder to use at some places.

I second Gadgetman's advice as to the D/C service contracts. I have never had a problem with them and I had them for nine years. I have also been present when folks have been turned down for "brand X" policies. You can negotiate a much better price from the dealer than you can get from Chrysler. I think the price of the contract is worth it, especially if you travel. It doen't take many trips to the service department to burn up the price of the contract. Just my opinion and I am sure that a good arguement can be made for not getting the extra protection.

Good

I think it's a good idea to get it. All you need is one big thing to break and it's paid for itself. I've purchased two new vehicles in my like. A 98 Dakota and a 00 Windstar. It seems to me on new cars, only big stuff breaks anymore. I had 5/100 on both vehicles and the warranty paid for themselves twice over on both vehicles.

On the dakota, trans, front driveshaft, two exhaust manifolds.

Windstar, two transmissions, two axles, two tie rods.

For the couple bucks a month it's costs, it's great insurance, Plus the peace of knowing if you break down anywhere, just bring it toa a DC dealer and tell them to fix it.

I bought an extended warranty when I bought my truck used. It is a brand x waranty as that was what was available. I will never buy another extended waranty again. The first time I went to use it, the waranty covered the cheap part, but not all of the labor because they have on their books how long it takes to replace a particular part and it seemed unreasonably short and the dealer said it was and I had to pick up the difference as well as shop supplies and the fluid to replace it. Recently I put in for a claim for the gasket behind the gear case. It's a big project, so I thought I'd have the dealer replace it and have the warranty company cover it. The rear axle seals were also leaking and ruined the rear brakes. The work was approved by the warranty company and the dealer did the work. Suddenly the warranty company isn't paying any claims nor are they approving any new service. Just my dumb luck I guess, but I got approval a day or two before they stopped paying bills. Now what I thought was going to be a $300 bill has turned into $2200. I've been waiting for two months to get them to pay. The warranty co claims they are in court right now and have another company forcefully hired by the courts to straighten out their mess. I hope I get reimbursed. Maybe the DC warrantees are better, but I'll shy away from brand X for the rest of my life.

tpcdrafting , sorry about your bad experiences this is the same treatment that I have seen and heard about with the brand x (non) coverage. The D/C contract is backed by Chrysler and is very specific about what is covered. I have seen it work at my local dealer and on the road. There has never been a problem, nor have there been any questions asked. It is cheaper to buy the added package from Chrysler when you buy your truck because you are more likely to get a good discount. Be careful that you understand just what is covered at the level you buy. I would be especially sure that electric and electronic parts are covered.

There are probably many things covered on the warranty that aren't modified, so it is possible that you will still come out ahead:) .

I got the 7/100000 cause 1-I just might keep this one longer(if I don't wreck it)2-I'm getting older:eek: and don't care to work on them anymore(just the normal stuff)First one I bought and when we bought the daughter a Liberty we got one on that too. And when Mama decides she wants a new Accord we will probably get one too.

I got my money's worth on my 98 warranty... Hooked the battery up backwards... and grounded the AC compressor. DC fixed it, and found some more fuses that I blew... Hey, it was a bad day, tornadoes and everything and I had to hit the road the next day for a fishing tournament that weekend... It's rather amazing more stuff wasn't broken after that little boo-boo... :--)
