I JUST STARTED BOMBING

I am thinking about buying a set of Power Vision extending mirrors for my Ram. Has anyone tried them & would they please comment. Thanks Don

I have 'em. They were installed about 2weeks ago. I love 'em. Unfortunately, the person who installed mine doesn't have the same workmanship standards I have. The installation requires drilling three holes in each door for mounting the mirrors using template(s). The person was just a tad sloppy when drilling/mounting on my passenger side, as it is 3/16" to 1/4" lower (on the door) than the drivers side. This screws up the alignment of mirror to door a little bit. While I am not real hopefull-- as soon as I get my service manual I am going to remove the interior door panels and try to "tease" it in to place. Installer was not real optimistic.

Normally I would have been screaming (in a very quiet way) but basically I didn't pay for the mirrors, and I am not going to negatively involve the great Dodge dealer who made that possible, because of the workmanship of another shop. I will fix it or live with it.

My point --- be very confident in the installer or stand over 'em when they are locating the templates for drilling and make sure it is right.

I looked at a pair of Power Visions at a dealer in middle GA. and was told the mirrows were not available for Dodge at this time. Some kind of problem had developed. The price was $460 for the mirrows and $300 installation. The display worked very well and would love to have them on the truck. I have geno's now but want some permanent. Are the ones for Dodge available now?

Yes the mirrors are and have been available. Try powervision.com. they are built in Pendelton,Oregon. I installed my own and they work real well. Theres no vibration whatsoever even when fully extended. Nelson,my right mirror tends to droop down compared to the left. Is this what your looking at?Also,I would recommend replacing the door panel retaining clips if removing the panel. They use a pushin clip which tends to distort when removed. Whenever we remove a Dodge p/u door panel in our shop we automatically replace all of the retainer clips. Keeps the panel good and tight when reinstalling.

Mike,

Yep, it droops, a little.

In addition, the bottom edge of the right side exterior mounting base is some distance below that of the left side. It actually sets on the "ramp" of the sheet metal "pocket" that accomodates the mirror mounting base.

Also, viewing the mirror from the exterior end on the right side -- the whole assembly appears to be rotated counterclockwise a smidgeon (top of the mirror toward the rear of the truck) Each of these by themselves would probably be O. K. (not very noticeable) but in combination it is pretty noticeable when you look at the truck from head-on. I noticed it right away --even in the state of "flush" of having those fancy new mirrors.

Not sure where you got the price of $400 and $360 install. Camping World sells them for $360 and install for $126.

I called and talked with PowerVision last fall and they told me that they wanted to have a heated mirror on the market by this comming summer, so I have been waiting. Camping World looks like they have the best price. Happy camping!

I keep telling myself to contact Powervision to see if there is any way to adjust the mirror up. I know there is an adjustment fore and aft using screws. One thing I noticed when installing mine was the pattern for drilling the inner holes in the door was off. I had first installed these on my 98 1500 but they stayed with me when I bought my 99. Didnt make that mistake again. Aside from not being heated these are great mirrors. I couldnt drive this truck with the stock mirrors anymore. Got used to all the extra surface and vision area. With bifocals you need all the help you can get. #ad

AKchuck, I have contacted Powervision numerous times since the purchase of my '98. 5 Ram regarding the addition of the heated feature to their mirrors. In my last conversation with them (early Dec. '99) it was revealed that the heated feature was still AT LEAST a MINIMUM of one year away! This was due to an existing contract with the current manufacturer of the mirrors. I would really like to add these mirrors to my Ram however, I do NOT want to forego the heated feature. I sure wish they would hurry up as I'm getting tired of waiting. Powervision also eluded to the fact they will be coming out with a retro kit for existing Powervision mirrors, albeit, expensive.

John and Don... Maybe if enough people called power vision (1-541-276-9495) complaining/begging for the heated mirror they would get the idea and get the job done. Doesnt seem to be that big a deal. Just a little wire on the back of the glass and a couple of wires to the factory switch on the dash. How easy can it be! My camper is 8'4 wide so I would really enjoy these mirrors.

That's what I thought. . I even told them that! Powervision stated the heated feature necessitated the redesign of the mirror housings. Don't shoot me I'm only the messenger. I've contacted Powervision by phone and e-mail at least 7-10 times over the last 18 months regarding the heated feature.

OK! Thanks for all the comments. I placed an order thia afternoon with Campers (Camping) World for a set of mirrors for my Ram. There was a coupon in the new issue of Good Sam Club mag. for an additionl 10% below their Presidents Club price. This made the cost $324 plus shipping of $12, $336 total. I called Power Vision about the schedule for heated mirrors & got the impression that it would be at least 1. 5 years and maybe never before they would offer a heated version. I don't want to wait that long. Will do the installion myself. Then there's no one to blame but myself for problems. Thanks for the heads up about keeping them even. Delivery in about 2 weeks, they say. Don
