extending the trailer hitch?

big rig mileage with RV weight trailer

12V charge line/circuit

I just got a camper that hangs 2' past the truck.

I have a light trailer (under 1K) that I will be towing. I can tow it as is, but it is tight.

I know you lose tongue weight capacity with those things, but my tongue is not much over 100 lbs. , so I've got lots to spare.

How will adding an 18" extender change the handling? It should make the trailer more maneuverable when backing, but harder to just go straight, right?

Also there is space under there that I could utilize with a hitch carrier, but those don't seem available as a combination package, but do seem viable as long as they are not overloaded.

Anyone have experience with these?

No prob

D- I used to have a pop-up on my '01 Ram V-10 LB, and would pull my boat and trailer behind it. Had to use an 18" extender as well. You just need to allow yourself some practice time and watch how the trailer follows the truck and make adjustments. Never had any issues. Bruce

I used one when I had one snowmobile in the bed of the truck and the trailer behind. I used the 18" extender and never noticed any difference whatsoever pulling ~1400#. I did have to add length to the chain and make an extension for the wiring. After that, piece of cake.

Thanks guys. I think I'll order up an extension. I'm going to try to find a platform to bolt or weld to it and have it serve double duty. Anyone seen something off the shelf that might work?

Thanks, Dave
