I'm looking for an exterior sun visor which mounts above the front

windshield. There must be an aftermarket supplier which has a unit which will fit the roof contour of my 1990 W250. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Bernie

This will give you an idea of what it will look like:

I bought it from Summit Racing 2 or 3 years ago. I think it cost me $275 with me installing it and having a body shop paint it.

I got one of those lund moonvisors. Its setting on the shelf in my garage. Its painted red and it is off of my 1993. I would not recommend one on a first gen truck. . Mine always rattled, not loose, just the outer edge of it always vibrated going down the road. I lost 1-2 mpg after installation. My wipers NEVER worked right after the install as the visor puts too much air back down the windshield, and pushes the wipers off the glass. I always carried an extra wiper behind the seat, when it rained while I was goin down in the interstate it would occasionally push the wiper off the glass and then catch on the visor. Then when the motor pulled the wiper back it would break the wiper and then at 70+ mph in the rain while passing someone you then could not see!!!

I tried with and without my two different bug shields with no changes, and two different bumper and grill gaurd setups, one being stock.

Don't get me wrong, they look good, but mine and some others I know off on first gen truck are NOT functional!! The air does not flow around the truck after installation,

Wanna buy mine?? :D :D

MMiller,

Interesting results. Can’t say as I have experienced any of the negative results you have. Maybe they are a different model? I really like my visor. I don’t have interior visors, so it helps block the sun some. Also, when it snows I only have to clean the bottom part of the windshield off. I didn't notice a drop in mileage either. Maybe I don’t drive as fast as you. :D I was actually surprised how tight it fits too. I also like the orange glow of the cab lights on the hood. Just reporting my experiences... Too bad it didn't work out for you.

I have a "lund" just like Mikes and I really like it. I have not had any problems with it or with my wipers. I do notice the bugs fly up over the top when traveling at speed. No rattles, No leaks. Plus, with a black truck it helps keep the cab a little cooler.

Mine is a Lund Moonvisor with the lights in it just like the one pictured on the white truck. I just took mine off, and I can't see how the body shop that installed it could have not done it right, it fit tight, and it didn't rattle against the roof, just the whole visor would flex and vibrate. It was tolerable at 55 or so, but any faster, or into a head wind it made all kinds of noise. I also drove a '90 4X4 350 dodge gasser with one on it and it did the same and I only drove it for a couple of miles. On my truck, I believe( my opinion) did not allow enough air through it. The air would come off the front of the truck and it hit the visor and it goes right down the windshield and back down the hood. I have had mud clumps on the hood from some wheelin, and when I get upto highway speeds the mud goes forwards until it wedges under the bug shield.

I am glad that some of you are having good luck with yours. I really liked how it looked, and I am not looking forward to welding the holes shut and getting the roof repainted, but I like it being off the truck better.

Oh by the way the visor has been on the truck since about mid 1996, and has well over 100,000 miles on the truck. Everything that I said has happened since day 1. I have had several dodge guys and ford guys tell me that was the nature of the beast.

MMiller,

I think your problem could be caused by the bug deflector changing the air that's hitting the visor, before paying to have the holes welded up and the paint redone it might be worthwhile to reinstall the visor without the bug deflector.

Just a thought,

Caleb

Hey Caleb

I thought about that too. I used to run a verticle bug shield and I took it off and ran around without it for a while, with no change. I also bought a contoured shield and it did not change that at all.

With or without both bug shields I had the same noise, etc.

About the only thing I did not try is to enlarge the holes in the rear of the visor but I was afraid or weakening the whole visor and having it break.

On my truck I just feel that not enough air was going through the visor.

Thanks for the reply.
