in prep for plowing snow with my 2010 3500, im checking to see if there was any resolution to the following. when running the plow, the exterior temp gauge (which i believe to be behind the grill on the drivers side) is blocked from getting air flow in amounts to allow it to indicate real outside temp. i had thought about moving the sensor, but was hoping a fix would be created. i read the tsbs in the last tdr mag, where the cab chassis has a feature that allows the fan to run while plowing. couldn't activate it by pressing the exhaust brake key + the cruise control cancel switch as indicated in the mag. any thoughts on how to get a correct outside temp reading while running the plow?

the new issue says something about being able to manually turn the fan on at 100% rpm then when your done reset it to normal.

you push a few buttons in sequence.

thanks, but

my question was if this button sequence will work on a pickup. the tdr listing specifies the cab chassis as having this function. i tried it, but the fan was spinning before and after i entered the buttons. maybe i have to try again when its cold enough that the fan stays off.

When you run the plow, the air flow in front of the grill is disturbed. There is nothing to be done about it. The air around the sensor is mixed with under hood air because the plow causes turbulence.

The TSB simply says while the plow is on the temp will read higher than with it off. The C/c is a different animal from the p/up

will running the fan more

by enabling the 'fix' serve to restore a more reasonable exterior temp to the grill mounted sensor? if not, a harness extension / relocation seems to be in order.....

As I said, it is the TURBULENCE that causes the high reading. The fan has nothing to do with it. Where are you going to mount the probe, in the bed? The mould board is 8 ft wide and shrouds the entire front of the truck. If you are plowing snow, it's below freezing, let it go.

the reason i would like to get an accurate reading

is that it effects the heat inside the cab. when you get the outside temp reading 80-100 degrees, it changes the way the heat inside the cab works. i am not sure, but it seems when the outside reading is off, the heat inside doesn't work well.

Hey Manny the out side temp shouldn't have anything to do with heat 2 different system's ? or maybe I'm Wrong ??????????
