Anyone running and external cb speaker in the gen 3?

Where are you putting it. I'm thinking of one and I was thinking of taking one of the small square ones and velcroing it to the windshield between the rearview mirror and the top of the windshiled (where all those black dots are)

I've got an old Realistic (Radio Shack) external with a 15' cable. I route the cable between the front seats and center console, then just sit the external speaker on the back seat. I seldom (have I ever?) have passengers in the back seat so that's a good spot for it that lets me crank up the volume without blasting my ears. When I travel I put the speaker on top of any equipment or luggage that is in the back seat. I like the long cable because I can place the speaker outside the truck when I need to.

Where are you gonna mount the unit itself?

My plan is to make a long "u" bracket out of flat aluminum and stand the cb on end straight up from the floor between the cup holder and center seat attaching the u bracket to the floor, then put a brace from the side of the cb to the front of the center seat bracket. for support.

Thanks. Please be sure to send pictures once you get it mounted.

I have a nice old souped up Cobra that I had in my last truck and I can't figure out where to put it in this one. One of my few complaints about this truck is no place to mount anything. I also have a piston safe I want to mount.

Take care.

I'ge got mine mounted on the "B" pillar as far to the top as practical. It'a a Cobra, and is around 5" square. At first I was afraid it would bump my left ear and so made a temporary mount with a coat hanger. Now it is screwed to the plastic.

I chose that location so that I could hear it over whatever else might be going on without having it loud enough that wifey dear would object. Works just fine.

My radio is a Cobra 75 with all the controls in the mike and the "box" itself buried under the plastic floor gizmo.

If you come up with a better idea please post it. Mine may need to be moved someday.

Butch

I'm hoping to do it Fri night, so I'll get some pics.

I know, mounting stuff is a major PIA. I put my brake controller attached to the front of the 4X4 shifter bezel

I mounted my CB in the same place you are talking about. If you look in my (View Readers Rig Gallery) you will see a picture of my CB. What I did and it works great is I made a "L" bracket that mounted to the front of my lower storage compartment below the center seat/compantment and attached the radio to it. I didn't need to drill any new holes or anything. Works great.

I have the Cobra 75 as well and used Motorola Phone speakers for both the phone and the CB. The speakers fit snugly between the center console and the seat. Works great.

What did you use to hold the "L", the bolts that hold the seat to the seat frame?

That is the same place I want to position mine.

You have any pics with the storage compartment open?

Thanks,

Nick. [

Another thing I thought of is mine needs to be mounted to the right edge of the center seat. I have a 4X4 with a manual shifter. I'll get a better look Fri night.
