2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission external voltage regulator?

Mebbe I dreamed it, but I seem to remember somebody replacing a bad PCM voltage regulator by installing an external type like they used to use. Does anyone remember this & find the instructions?

Yes that will save the price of a new PCM. You can buy the old 70's style regulator and connector. It is only 2 wires to deal with
