i only use my truck, when i'm going at least 20+ miles.

i have my little ranger for all of the lite duty short trip stuf.

i tow or take trips of at least 1,000 miles one way once a year, usually more.

when towing, my trailers are around 10k lbs.

ever since new my oil level has always been over full.

this last change @5k intervals, i made sure they only filled it to the normal level. my service is usually performed at dodge dealerships.

the last two oil changes i asked the dealer to make a note of the excess oil level on the electronic service record, i can't prove that they have done it.

my truck currently has 33k miles on it.

i checked it a few days ago and the oil has gone up again.

i have about 3k on the oil change.

when i get the oil changed this spring, prior to my next trip.

should i make the dealer take a oil sample.

or is this a new feature on the 6. 7.

33k is just getting broke in. . If you use the truck for longer runs and towing, 5k oil changes should not be a problem as the fuel/oil dilution is not happening.

As for the oil being "up". Are you checking it hot or cold? I bet cold, right?. . Usually when the tech changed the oil, it was hot,. . Drained the oil... . filled it to full, then when you check it cold, all the oil that was up in the engine at the time of service dripped down and now it shows overfull. I would not worry about it if it is like less than 1/2 Qt overfull which I bet it is.

the last two times, i've asked them to only put in three gallons.
the following morning i double check, and the oil was at the full mark.
now the oil is again above the fat area above the full mark. but it doesn't get any higher.
about 20k of my driving has been with over 10k behind the truck.
and if i idle i engage the engine brake and fast idle features.
i'm thinking of switching to synthetic motor oil next time, and extending to the 7500 mile recommended changes.
i wanted comments on the extra oil before making any changes.
i still think i should have the dealer take a sample in case of possible future issues.
if i had the spinner 2 installed, i could take my own sample.
i still haven't figured out where to mount the spinner unit.

The oil level raising is perfectly normal on a 6. 7 as long as you do not exceed the oil change reminder in the overhead. It actually comes on about 500 miles early so you don't have to stop immediately and change it.

During regen unburned fuel can pass by the rings and gets into the crankcase. The light comes on about 4-6% fuel dilution or about 1/2 to 3/4 quart in volume. And no it will not hurt anything. I can't think of any 6. 7 yet with an oil related failure. As for overfill, as soon as you start it the level drops by a couple of quarts so it will never cause a problem. Fire it up and check the oil with it running, it will be off the stick in most cases.

thanks for all of the helpful reply's. sounds like my truck is as normal as they get.

so the next the oil change it will get the good oil, as the motor should be broken in.
