Something I read in another post prompted me to ask this question.

I have an 02 dually with 4:10's. It has the Towing package, camper package and all that stuff, which I think adds an additional trans cooler.

Do I still need to add an aftermarket cooler in addition to the ones I already have?

Towing 10K at 65mph on the flats most of the time.

Since heat is by far the #1 killer of auto trannys, i would say it certainly can't hurt. The scenario where are you not letting the fluid warm up enough is very difficult to achieve, especially if you have the stock TC which slips like nuts and TORCHES the ATF.

Shoot, I added a 26K# gvwr transmission cooler to my little Maxima, and that thing has a LOT of life left in it at 100K miles. I am amazed how tight it still shifts.

I also use 9insert brand) synthetic ATF. To me, you can't go wrong with synth ATF and lots of exra cooling.

Those new B&M coolers (the ones that look like an air cooled engine with their fins) are probably the best and the toughest. Summit has them.
