I bought a 2001 with an automatic and was wanting to know if 91,000 miles was to high to be adding an Edge EZ. It is a 1 owner but I don't know the maintenance history. I will be pulling a Trail- Lite 5'er (5,000 lbs. ) with the truck. What do you think? To add or not to add?

Thanks,

He meant your automatic transmission unlocked while going through the gears.

I would do it, no matter how many miles are on the transmission it is only a matter of time before it pukes, some have had trouble with low miles and power upgrades some have had trouble with high miles and upgrades, so it is a matter of preference with a dash of the transmission will need fixing sooner or later, depends if you want the sooner or later as any upgrade will compromise the weekest link in any system.

It does not take alot to get the trans to hold moderate power upgrades. There are several transmission companies building converters for $350-$500 with low stall and more clutch area. That combined with more pressure will hold for many miles assuming your trans is in good condition now.

Hope I didn't talk you out of something you really wanted to do. With a mild upgrade such as the EZ and only pulling 5,000 lbs I would get the EZ, this is only what I would do and others may not. If your truck is a slug like mine was then the only way you would be happy is to do the upgrade but keep in mind some where down the road your going to need transmission upgrades also, or at least an overhaul.

I see that you are quite far away from me (MO to UT). I was just wondering if you know what HP those $300-$500 transmission jobs

will hold up to. I've been looking in my area and have been getting prices from $1500-$2500 for, VB and TC and DD transmission pan. What companies do you know that might be close to me?

The trans shop I was talking with on mine felt confident their converter could live at 350 hp. I ended up using Suncoast as I wanted 400+rwhp, but if I was building a truck to tow with and would be happy with a timing box and say DD2's I would run their setup.

you can up the stock line pressures to get some more holding force. as long as you arent' consitantly slipping the converter clutch and the internals aren't slipping in fluid coupling, then you shoudl be alright for a while.
