Well, have had a chance to fully test the EZ box and the injectors upgrade to my '99. I know that I have seen many posts that are asking about power, EGT, boost, performance etc, and I though I would compile it all here.
Here are my impressions:
If you drive SANELY, that is, keep it under 65 MPH with the trailer, you will see an improvement of about 2-3MPG with this combination.
If you drive like a madman, you will still see an improvement over stock, but it's more like 1. 5MPG. Two trips ago, I saw 14. 8MPG towing at 50-60MPH.
Last trip, towing 60-75MPH, measured 13MPG.
The bottom end power is huge. Almost too huge. I seriously empathize with my transmission of having to deal with all that torque
EGT's are always in the safe zone, no matter WHAT I do. The most I have EVER seen is about 1190 degrees, with the hammer down in 4th gear going up a steep grade for a long stretch with the trailer in tow. Most of the time the uphill EGT's are in the 1000-1100 degree range, which is safe. My exhaust is stock BTW.
BOOST will peak at about 29 lbs. I installed the boost elbow also.
Performance- Simply awesome. Power is smooth from bottom to top RPM. Very responsive. For trailer pulling, I couldn't think of a better combination, without replacing your clutch and exhaust.
Pulling a 9000 lb trailer UPHILL, in 5th gear, passing cars is something to be experienced. In short, it pulls HARD in all gears.
Negatives - I end up driving too fast now, and continually on this site getting more "bad" ideas
.
The stock clutch seems to do just fine holding back the torque, although be careful dumping the clutch too quick towing the trailer while on a dirt road. You'll spin out, and it'll buck like mad due to axle wrap.
Summary:
For those who are sitting on the fence wondering if they should go for this sort of combination, go for it. You won't look back, except to see the Powerstrokes and Maxes you left in the dust. BUT GET GUAGES!!!! I did not want guages at first, but after having them, I don't think I could live without them, seriously.
Hope this helps for those with some questions.
Shawn
