please help!!!!!! why 24 valves???

Had some FUN w/ a DuraMin

Pulled along side a D-max thinking I was going to pull away. Nope. He pulled slightly away from me at 65mph. I'm thinking that my tc was slipping and it hurt my performance.

Has anybody else with EZ and 275's raced a D-max?

Jordan,
Dont forget the Duramax is a high reving engine. I bet with a load, he would be scratchin' his head.
Big A

If you have the stock auto that is probably most if not all of the problem, and I would be willing to bet that your TC clutch is slipping with that combo and heavy throttle at 1800-2000 rpm. Get it over about 2300 and it will probably hold the power for a while. If your TC dropped out of lock up during your race you don't have much of a chance, it is too inefficient to put all of the power down.

The Duramax will walk all over a stock, almost stock Ram in stop light to stop light type games. They will also give a stock/almost stock truck a run for its money going down the road side by side. Did you buy the diesel to drag race or pull? Most people buy them to pull. Hook a trailor up to both trucks and you will see the difference as you look at his grille in your side mirrors. I can walk all over a semi, but hook a load up to both vehicles and that tells the tale. Its fun being fast, but keep in mind why you got the truck to begin with.

About a year ago a friend and fellow member installed 275's and a Van Aaken on his auto equipped Ram. He told me he had talked to Bill Kondolay about trans mods and that Bill said that kind of power will destroy the stock converter in short time.
From what I've heard the 275's/PE EZ puts out a little more power,so it's time to look at trans mods.

Chad, you REALLY hit the nail on head with your post. I bought my Ram for one reason and one reason only. To pull around my travel trailer. I was happy camper... ..... until one day (many moons ago) I jumped from Fritz's web site over here and started reading the postings of ever increasing horsepower & Torque. A few weeks exposure to this RAMpaging virus was enough to cause me to digress from "Hot Rodder" disease to "BOMBer" disease. I search these forums daily for a cure, but I have yet to find one.

I know its not a sports car, but a pulling machine. I would just like to take that smurk of D-max owners face when we are both empty going down the highway.

Yeah Chad is right on the money.
Remember that as long as the Dmax has more rev's to play with, he can put more torque to the ground LONGER for any gear than you can, which for drag racing is what you need. , since he is gonna reap the benefits of torque multiplication in the lower gears.
Pulling heavy loads is a different story.
For dragging it's RPM RPM RPM!

I know that we all know this, but it's always fun to drag.
Then again, ain't no way I could outpull a Kenworth. #ad
YET.

Was behind a new Duramax with four passengers on a new test drive and he pulled away from me with my stock Auto and 'EZ' like I forgot to push the gas pedal. Wait until I get my DTT VB and my DD2's #ad

Fact:The First Fords' had 'DODGE' Engines! The new PSD's need them!

In all the auto equiped CTDs I've ridden in there was always a big difference in acceleration once the TC was locked up. Don't know what it does for transmission reliability, but putting a lockup switch on a stocker sure helps.

Stock Duramaxs are putting out between 230 and 250 horse power with less torque than our engines. If you want to beat one, those are the figures to shoot for. An ETC with 275s and EZ may not be quite enough.

Those of you hoping to consistently beat the V8 diesels in the "stoplite wars" had better be prepared to spend $$$$!

The smaller displacement inline Cummins is FAR more like a freight train than an Indy racer - and where it earns its keep is pulling loads up steep grades. If *I* wanted, or was satisfied merely with snappy accelleration off the line and around town, I woulda' bought a GAS engine! But yeah, MANY a prospective diesel buyer WILL be impressed enough with either the Ford PS or the new GM Duramax to pick it over a Cummins - our primary satisfaction will be to turn their grins upside-down up in the mountains as opportunities arise. That's certainly been true with my old early '91 Ram 250 - with relatively minor mods to date, I have NEVER been passed while towing in the hills by anything NEAR my load - not too shabby for a 10 year old truck with a smaller displacement engine... #ad

Not that this is super funny, or even the point here, but if you really want to laugh at a D-max owner, do it when both of your trucks break-down in the middle of nowhere. Hmmm, "Oh yeah cummins B-series, our service tech will be right out. " VS. "Dura-what, we don't service those engines sorry. "

Chad is right, and this is the reason I bought my trucks, to haul. But it must be something in the DNA that causes that BOMB factor to get pegged! #ad

Someone told me Popular Mechanics magazine just did an article that had the Duramax in it. According to their test the Duramax was good until they put a 4000lb load on it and then it started loosing its efficiency and power real fast. I guess they hooked the same load upto a Ford Powerstroke, and it walked all over it pulling, which shouldnt come as no suprise to anyone reading this. I will have to check this article out to see what all it covered.

When towing, I always make it a point to pass while going UP hill... ... . That way, there is no doubt in there mind.

All the tests I have seen on the Duramax have been with small(under 30')car or van type trailers, with very little weight. They all point to one thing=Bad fuel mileage, not near the power they were hopeing for,and on steeper hills they loose it. But you won't hear any owners say anything bad about em. I wouldn't admit to spending 43000. 00 on a POS.
