these numbers are about the same with the Edge ez box on and off.

at 50mph 575 egts and 4 boost

at 60mph 600-625 egt and 7 boost

at 70mph 625-650 egt and 12

from 50mph floor it and bring up to 70mph, Max egt’s 1000 same with ez and with out.

rolling from a stop and floor it up to 70mph Max egt’s 1050 same with ez and with out.

normal acceleration from a stop egts climb to 600, when OD kicks in at 40 egts climb to 800 and levels off as truck picks up speed, about the same with and with out ez.

Now towing 10,000 lbs fiver at 70mph egts 950 with out ez and 800 with ez

up a steep incline and trying to keep same speed with out ez, egts climb to 1000 but truck looses speed from 70 down to 55-50

then must lock out Od to keep at 50mph

With ez truck basically keeps up same incline but egts climb to a Max of 1100 and keeping transmission in OD

Definitely has a lot more power with ez but egts climb a lot faster to 1100 under a load.

What I do is accelerate keeping egts at a 1000 and let truck gradually pick up speed instead of getting on it and have egts at 1100. Aparentely the Ez doesn't make much of difference when truck is not loaded and with trailer egts are only higher when under a heavy load but truck sure has seat of the pants power.

Question, Am I with in safe egt temps when towing? keep in mind the truck just has 4” exhaust, Ez and stock air filter.

Your comments and suggestions are appreciated.

HEYBOSS, is that pre turbo or post turbo? I don't mean to be critical but pulling a 10k. trailer up a steep grade in OD scares the heck out of me, I know they will do it but I really think your pushing it. Just my 2 cents.

Forgot to add that

chuck3; It is pre turbo. I don't think I have a problem as far as the trans. goes pulling up a hill in OD, I have the 4. 10 rear and engine is running at 2100-2200 rpm which is the sweet spot.

In order for me to run it up hill with OD locked out I can only push it to 50-55mph max and the engine is at about 2800-3000rpm

Any comments, susggestions are appreciated.

Thanks, Fred.

Heyboss -

If your concernec with your EGT's, I'll just push you up the hill next time:D .

Max EGT's I've seen, as you know, is 1250-1300, short spike. The rest of your numbers sound correct to me.

Those EGT's seem just fine.

You could pull all day long up a hill at 1000 degrees.

I have 275 injectors in addition to the EZ, and pulling our 5er up a steep long grade, I can get it to 1200.

I don't worry even at 1200.

Any more, and I'd spend more time staring at the guages than I would driving.

Check out Fritz's Ram site & The Cummins Site. On one of those, I remember seeing a note on EGT that said 1250 Pre Turbo or 950 Post Turbo were Max continious operation temps allowed.

Just got back from Richmond Va. Drove I-64 to I-77 through West Virgina many mountians 6 & 7% grades for miles, towing over 8000 lbs and my EGT's never got above 1200*, just left it in OD and when speed would drop to about 60 mph @ 1900 rpm transmission would shift into 3rd no lock up and scream at between 2900/3000 rpm with 26 psi boost EGT's were fine--even on Sand Stone Mountain--7% grade for about 6 miles--topped it at 55 mph:D :D

If you put on the NAPA filter and loose the muffler (not the resonator) your temps will drop about 150 degrees. I have an EZ on an 2001 auto 4x4 ex. cab and can not get past 1100 pulling 8500 lbs. (pre. turbo):)

I'll just borrow my friends truck, heck it even has a fifth wheel hitch on it:rolleyes:

I already have the 4" exhaust (no resonator)

May be the Napa filter will help, getting more air in may help egts go down a little but it seems I'm OK with my numbers (according to posted replies)

Mallory,

Did you modify your wastegate at all? (read: did you use your boost elbow, or do you have a hard line?)

Reason I'm asking, is I just put on a modified wastegate. I can now see 38 psi, alot more than the 26 psi prior. this should also help lower egt's slightly
