Gentlemen,

I could use an assist. I attempted to swap out my stock boost elbow with the EZ boost elbow and was stumped and frustrated. I got the turbo intake hose off and the boost elbow hose off and tried to get at the stock elbow from the side of the truck, through the wheel well, underneath the truck and from the front of the truck, all to no avail. I tried different wrench sizes and socket sizes, I even tried to melt it off with repeated, blistering strings of dirty words, nothing worked. It appears to me that the lip of the turbo (where the silencer ring is located) and the little brass teat that the elbow hose connects to are conspiring with the frame rail, the shock tower and the height of this beast truck to ensure that the stock elbow stays in place. I could probably get the thing off in a minute with the turbo on a work bench, but damn I don't won't to take the turbo off and out...

Please give me some wrenchin' advice. Thanks.

Grab a cherry picker, insert a belt loop on the hook, have your wife lower you down into the engine bay, and work away to your heart's content!

Try standing on a 12" box and going at it from above. It takes a bit of maneuvering, but it can be done. I think I used a wrench (can't remember what size end) but it was about 6" long. Make sure it's not too big (it does have a normal American size that fits it) as the brass will smoosh.

You can do it.

Well, I guess there are three problems:

1. ) I am a big sissy mechanic,

2. ) The brass teat prevents me from getting a socket or wrench over the square fitting,

3. ) The angle of the fitting and the teat in relation to the turbo lip prevent me from getting any vise grips on it or any leverage with a barely seated combination wrench.

I am going to concentrate on Problem # 1 and maybe # 2 and 3 will disappear. Thanks for the "encouragement". :p

1) No, no, you're not, you're calmly thinking this through and being patient. :D

2) I remember putting the wrench on at an angle, not too much, but not straight on either.

3) The turbo lip didn't even come into play with mine. Hmmmmm... is it pointed skyward, sideways, or down?

Not insulting your intelligence, but your are trying to loosen it? You know, lefty loosey? I tell myself that all the time...

Snap a digi pic and post it here.

You'll get it loose and have the other one installed soon.
