After reading the posts on the EZ box I'm getting that old BOMBing itch. I have a couple of questions. Does the EZ improve fuel mileage? Where would I get the boost elbow that I have seen reference to in some of the threads? Is it absolutely necessary. Will I have to worry about the ECM de-rating my fuel at 21 lbs of boost? I'm running completely stock and will not do anything on the line of injectors or other warranty endangering activities. The EZ box is easy to disconnect in the event I need warranty service. For those of you running an EZ box alone, have you seen a dramatic increase in EGT's while towing? TIA.

Hey John-

After guages, the EZ will be my first real mod, too. I have heard of some people seeing a slight increase in mileage with the EZ alone, but I wouldn't count on it. Stranger things have happened, though. The elbow you hear about comes with the EZ, and will prevent your truck from defueling above 21# of boost. In fact, 30# seems to be what guys are getting after the elbow is installed. That high of boost will also help prevent a dramatic rise in EGTs. The guys running the box without the elbow have more EGT problems.

I've heard so many people rave about that little black box that I can't wait to get mine! I hope this helps.

Chris

The Elbow comes off as "EZ" as the box does. Very simple, You can install the whole thing in less than 5 minutes and that will include opening and shutting the hood. Got mine a few days ago and love it. I am doing the bombing SIN of running with no guages. I got the wrong d@mn A-pillar from a local shop here so i have to wait until tuesday.

John, like everyone here has stated, the EZ is just as the name implies. Easy to install, takeoff and it will improve mileage if you drive sanely. I highly recommend it as a first mod, because of this ease, and it gives the most bang for the buck compared to just injectors.

Ditto's to the aformentioned post!(BTW,not a Rush Limbaugh type 'Ditto') #ad

Anyway, I was going to add a 'PE Hot Box' along with my "EZ" ,"DD2's," however, with the "EZ" I have now ,there is WAY too much for even a slight rainy street!
ie:It goes sideways at 1/4 throttle!!!,and also, while it puts a smile on my face, #ad
it also scares the $^#% out of the drivers in the lanes on either side of me. #ad

John- I am running an EZ only, for the same warranty reasons as you.

To answer your questions;
Yes, there is an increase in mileage- once you learn to keep your foot out of it. #ad

The boost elbow comes with the EZ, and yes it IS necessary to install it to keep the EGT's down. Matter of fact the EGT's will be lower than running stock. (timing changes?)

The EZ box will over-ride the MAP sensor and will not allow de-fueling at 21 psi.

I tow with the EZ in the Rockies, and see lower EGT's than stock, BUT I can still run the EGT's up to 1300* on a hard pull (stock too) so gauges are a MUST.

Keep yer Cummins Hummin!

Doug - thanks for the info. Is that boost elbow installation the same for all 24v trucks or does it vary from year to year. The turnbuckle setup looks the best because everything can be removed if warranty work is necessary.

I answered my own questions. I don't need the turnbuckle cuz I have an HX turbo. I saw 26. 5 on the boost gauge last nite. Will it go higher? Time will tell. At least for the moment I don't need a new boost gauge #ad
. Watch the tight fit behind the fuel filter. I broke the wire from my fuel gauge sender #ad

That repair took longer than installing the box #ad
Very pleased with the results of the EZ box. I left it on setting 3. Now I can't wait to tow.

I added the EZ a couple of weeks ago, but haven't done anything with the elbow yet. I've got the 2001. 5 with an auto, so I'm running the smaller turbo. Nowel mentioned to me that the elbow can't be used, but that I should pinch off the existing rubber tube. It's been a couple of weeks since he and I spoke and I can't remember exactly what I need to do... any recommendations? I'm sure I'm not the only auto out there running the EZ. Let me know what others are doing. Thanks.

Waterbrain... .

Check out author zman post The Easy way to disable your wastegate, posted 2-16-01 in the 24 valve forum. Sorry, I don't know how to "give" it to you here... .computers are like dogs, they know when you're afraid of them. #ad
Maybe someone else will do this for you.

You have a "hardlined wastegate". The boost elbow that came with your EZ can't be used on the 01 HY35 turbo trucks. You can disable the wastegate... see post on how... and this will allow you to create boost beyond 20psi.

Hope this helps. BTW, I haven't done this yet, but have the printed post with pics so I can.

John Berger... . thanks for helping.

Maybe this question will help other TDR members who are computer challenged, like me.

I have a printed copy of the zman post I referred to. At the bottom of the page is the exact link configuration you provided. When I enter it as an "address" and click on it, it doesn't come up. So, I've never attempted to pass this along to anyone because I just thought I wasn't doing it the right way. What am I missing here?

Thanks... . Joe
