this doo-hickie #ad
seems to hold about a quart of old oil in the sump. (I hadn't noticed before, on the previous oil change) 10 quarts new oil in, +1 leftover,+1 in the filter. now I've got 12 quarts in the system, reading about 1/2-3/4" too high on the dipstick. Is this a problem? NO. Why?
during operation, the P-7100 holds about a quart of motor oil which then brings the stick-read down to the "full" line. #ad

The over-valved crowd is limited to 11 quarts. We can get away with 12. #ad

Prior to this oil change, though, I had the vacation trip, where I spent lots of time running 80-85mph on the highways. Had a few crawl-times with nose down. (nothing real radical, but I guess I got some slosh-out thru the blow-by tube) Now virtually my whole underside has been rustproofed #ad
. I see the 24-valve guys always talking about the blow-by bottle. Can ours be done that way? If so, where's that blasted tube, since I've never seen/identified it? ... rich

Crank Case Vent tube is just forward of the fuel filter on the driver's side of the engine.

Most 12 valve guy's just put an old pill bottle wire tied on the end of the tube. Make sure you vent the cap so that pressure can escape.

You must baby your truck. Mine runs 80 virtually every day in Houston traffic (I'm fortunate that I commute against the flow)
and my 96 5 speed does not consume or blow by oil. I haven't seen your problem on my truck and have 123K now.

I also tend to run more rpm's as I've put 225 75 -16 tires on my dually to make it sit an inch lower. Shorter tires mean higher rpm for the same speed (the odometer drive gear has been replaced with the correct one for the shorter tires. )
Maybe it's the type of oil that you used.

Howdy redram---thanx for response... actually, the concept of "babying" a truck is relative. Compared to some previous vehicles, I hammer this thing badly, though not to the extent that some other guys do. I, too, am an upstream swimmer, when I see "rush hour" traffic at all ( I work 5:00am-1:30pm, so usually can drive as fast as I want on the way into town, and do a little racing on my way back out in the afternoon. Once buzzed the jones/95 police substation @ 100+ #ad
)

that must have been more sloshment than blowby, then, because it was all over the steering stabilizer and everything rearward.
No change in oil. . been running Delo400for at least 30K, now. Hafta check the logbook for specifix, though.
Next suspicion would be a loosening oil filter... . nope, not here.
transmission fluid from cooling lines? No, not red and not "low" on the dipstick.
P. S. fluid? haven't checked stick lately, but still goes where I point the wheel, w/out any of that horrible pumpsqueal.

Any other ideas??? Hasn't continued, or gotten worse, so must have been just an isolated incident, I guess... . happy clattering//// rich
