Cummins crank case vent

OK - I'm missing something obvious here. Attempted to replace the OEM oil plug with the Geno's EZ plug, but for some reason it won't thread into the pan. It won't pick up any of the threads at all- just pushes up into the hole.

Now for the bizarre part. If I put it side-by-side with the original the treads and diameter appear identical. The EZ is considerably shorter though, but I can't see how that would keep it from threading in.

Of course I'm trying to do this with 11 quarts of brand new Rotella in it so I can't actually look up into the pan to see if the length would make a difference, but I can't see that it would.

Any suggestions??? Anyone else have trouble with the EZ?

Vic,

The threads are a bit shorter. The only thing I can think of is if you accidently ordered the kit for the wrong year truck. If you are sure you ordered the right one, the next thing I would ask is if you are the original owner of the truck. Did someone else drill and tap the pan for a larger plug (after stripping the original threads)? Also check to be sure you have a OEM pan if you are not the original owner. If none of the above applies, give Robin at Geno's a call. Your threads may be too short by manufacturing mistake. Any other thoughts guys/gals? Good luck!!

Thanks David - I am the original owner and its the original pan and plug. Also, the FEMCO package says 22 mm, but it could be the wrong part in the right box.

Now I'm grasping at straws, but when I was verifying the part number in the latest Geno's catalog, there is a nice picture of an EZ and I can clearly count 9 threads on it. I have 9 threads on my OEM plug, and the other two plugs in the catalog (finger touch and super plug) all have 8-9 threads.

My new EZ only has 4 threads. If the threads in the pan don't start right away, maybe this one is too short? I've never seen the inside of a CTD oil pan and I can't figure why they threads would start higher then the pan bottom, but maybe they do?

Anyone had the pan off that could verify this?
