I just ordered a new Texas Pride 16K bumper pull equipment trailer with the 8k axles but they don't have the 17.5 tires and wheels, just 14 ply 16's. I guess that is why they are affordable :) I will pick it up in Stratford, Texas.

Update: Just canceled my order, do your home work guys:eek: Not going to go into detail and hijack this thread more than I already have, Lol I will post a little more about it on my Al-Ko thread.

EZ lube was designed for boat trailers . Being submerged in water they need their bearings greased more often. The ignorant salesman that know just about zero try to use that as a sales tool. Check them annually by pulling the wheels and repacking the bearings by hand or whenever you feel the need to do it.

I will continue with my Dexter EZ lube system as so far it is doing the job. Keep an eye on the back seal for any grease. One full year and no issues so far. PROPER greasing is the ticket.

Gary, thanks for posting this. I bought our first 5th wheel last year and it has the 5200 lb EZ lube axles. *Ive owned several trailers over the years but never an EZ lube. Out of curiosity of how the system worked (and not knowing when the last time was the bearings had been pulled/inspected/repacked) I pulled everything apart. It's definitely a step up from the bearing buddy's found on boat trailers but I could definitely see the potential to over grease these and push past the rear seal.*

Think I'll just stick to puling and repacking every other year and leave the grease zerk alone. *

I have them on my boat trailer (no brakes), and I still remove and repack the old fashioned way.

I finally got a chance to do the other two. The first had some seepage, but not too bad. Then the last one.

So three out of four spurting grease. Hopefully a wake up call for those who believe the Dexter hype..

You sure they installed the right size seal? I had an issue whit one trailer the factory installed the wrong size seal and the lip didn't touch the axle they were almost 1/16 too large

I didn't measure them with calipers so who knows? The Timkens I installed fit snugly. The point of the thread isn't about failed seals anyway, it is about the idiocy of simply pumping grease into a spindle rather than removing the hub and inspecting the innards.
