I'm running DD1's with a recent addition of the EZ and BHAF. Just got back from a 20k gross trip to SoCal across route 40 for a little over 3k miles. This combo is awesome for towing (More speed and less EGT on hills). I do roll on the acceleration easy out of respect for the clutch. If I remember right, I should be a little under what the 5 spd clutch can handle and should have troble free clutch life assuming i'm not abussive- any one with experience here??

On a similar note, my dad has an 01 3. 54/ auto with 275's and wants to add an EZ and BHAF. He mostly tows light weight and occasionally tows his 8k fishing boat, but mostly in 3rd due to new england speedlimits, will downshift to 3rd on big hills too. Will adding the EZ push his transmission over the edge?? I know the transmission could be pumped up too, I just don't think he wants to delve that far into the dark side.

I don't know about the clutch, but I have some knowledge on the auto transmission. Check the line pressure in drive idling, not moving. It has been my experience that you will need to see at least 58-60PSI to hold that combo. Some trannies have pressure that high and some don't. The main difference in pressures between stock trannies in in the amounts of internal leakage, some leak a lot more than others and lose pressure as a result. If it is low you can turn it up. The instructions are on the DTT website, and you want to get 62-64 PSI if you can. That is about all you can expect out of the stock VB, and depending on internal leakage you may not be able to get that. The big key to not trashing the transmission is you HAVE to keep the RPM up and throttle positions heavy, especially in lockup. If you try to ease it around with low RPM and light throttle you will probably slip at least the TCC and probably the clutch packs in the transmission too, the low RPM hit of the torque from the EZ is extremely hard on the transmission and is only compounded with injectors. Heavy throttle will get you higher pressures and more holding force in the transmission, but it needs to be in the higher RPM. Good luck, and hope this helps.

I wish someone would answer this question!!Oo. I would really like to know the answer since I'm thinking of doing the exact same thing. 275 injectors, Edge EZ, BHAF with basically the same setup.

Right now I won't tow anything over 3500lbs for the forseeable future but don't want to grenade the transmission with BOMB's.

Anyone?? Beuler? Beuler?

Thanks everyone!

mberry, be carefull, unless you take at least the precautions lsmith is talking about, you can damage an auto with just 275s and an EZ. There is a guy here in my parts who smoked one with that combo, then had it rebuilt by the dealer (would not spend the money for a good vb and tc upgrade) guess what 3k miles later he says i think my transmission is slipping again. be warned, and go easy on the pedal if nothing else until the trans is upgraded

Bill K has been telling us for a long time that this combo is beyond the limis of a stock trans, I don't know why guys don't want to hear it. Put your money into the trans to get your power to the ground.

Actually, the transmission and TC are the first things I'm going to upgrade and thanks for the advice. I don't really want or need more power, but I do want better mileage.

Most of my miles are highway anyway commuting to work and back. Plus I am one of those people that got the full 100K mile engine/powertrain warranties and don't want to void the warranty anytime soon. The only downside is I live and drive at a higher elevation than a lot of people.
