I have an 01, put on an ez and gauges3. 54 rear. Just came back from a 2500 mi. trip towing an 8 K trailer. Power was wayyy better than my '92, but, mileage was down about 2 mpg to 11 to 12. This was up hill and down, old truck same load, same trip 13. Slower because for one, no ez. same everything else. So, was mileage off because I was now going up the hills faster, thought the ez would make mpg better? This trip goes from Sacramento, ca to Las Vegas. Problem, has anyone experienced a shudder when in overdrive, with between 8 and 20 lbs, of boost?? Drove me crazy trying to figure if it was the transmission or what. I know you should not be in overdrive pulling etc, but it's lots 'o' fun going 65 in third buzzing at 2800 rpm. Is it the EZ, or???? I should have disconnected it and saw if it went away, but was afraid to do anything unusual on the trip?? 1 ton dually. EGTs never got over 1200, even loooong uphills. Why the shudder at like part throttle??

Hemiville, I believe this would be your torque conveter is it stock? This happens to me as well, mine is stock. Most of the time, it would be under a heavy pedel, going up hill. I have been told, that if I have my converter changed this will go away. I have asked to scheduled an apointment at Blue Chip to have this done soon. I could let you know what happened. Steven

Mine did that a few times towing my TT, then started slipping a little now and then. I just had the DTT mods installed a couple weeks ago, looked at the old TC, sure enough it had got hot an overheated a few times,( saw the heat marks) even tho my trans. temp. never showed it, sender is in the pan BTW, I would say you are close to that point now. my2cts. :{

torque convt.

Thanks, would like to know if that is the culprit. I kind of thought that if something was slipping something should heat up, but didn't see any evidence of that. I guess you could slow down to what my old truck would pull, about 15 mph slower, but you would think that when they upped the hsp to 235 they would have modifyed the TQ to handle it. Mind you, I was almost always in 'cruise', so I wasn't flooring it or anything. Jeez, if I have to get a 'better' TQ , it would be a LOT cheaper to take the EZ off. I wonder if it is the EZ, or is it a problem with the higher hsp. engs. ??If it's the ez, I could disconnect when towing, and reconnect when not. Doesn't make sense, I know, but where do you draw the line ??Unfortunately, I didn't pull the trailer under the same conditions before I put on the ez, to see if it would be worth even more cost to have a little added power, i. e. , a beefed up TQ.

I don't know Hemy, but mine was slipping running empty with the EZ, don't know if it would help to take off the EZ but think for me it was allready too late for that. :confused:

Hemiville,

Was your shudder at or start at about 16-1800 rpm? There are many of us that have this problem. It seems to be a problem in cold weather. I've had this problem for about a year. I don't think it's related to a slipping TC. I had the shudder before installing the EZ, but the EZ certainly ascerbated the the problem. It was very suttle w/o the EZ. We recently had some 70* weather and the problem went away till the temps dropped back into the 20-40*.

Check some of the hesitation/shudder/bucking threads and see if those symtoms don't sound like yours.

Hopefully it's not the TC. HTH

Tom

chuck3,

Did you notice yours slipping before your transmission upgrades?Did it go away after the trans uprgade? And also I noticed you live in Utah , who would you recomend in the area to install the DTT tanny upgrades?

clanders, yes it was slipping before the upgrades, but not after thanks to the DTT upgrades. I had mine installed at Bakers Diesel in Ogden. email me for further info if needed. chuck.
