I like the idea of a fifth wheel, but hate the idea of that hitch being in the bed all the time. Does anyone make a hitch that comes out/reinstalls really easily so I can have my bed free most of the time?

Take a look at the Reese system of hitches. 4 pins and the hitch comes out leaving 2 small rails in the bed. Good Luck!

Hello

Check out the site at turnoverball.com

Happy Camper informed me on this hitch and I like it. I have the entire 8 foot bed and I also have a goose neck if I want to and I have a 5er hitch when I want to pull our 5er.

See Ya

Chris

I think that you will find that all 5th wheel hitches can be eaisly removed. The difference is in the mounting system. Some have rails mounted side-to-side across the bed (Reese and Drawtite), and some have them mounted for-aft (RBW). The Turnoverball uses some kind of mount under the bed. The mouning rails stick up about 1" for the Reese and Drawtite.

In any case, the 5er hitch is the way to go. Very easy to hook up to.

I have the one that Barry is referring to. I can still load mowers or a 4-wheeler in the bed with no trouble. Take the 5er hitch out and use the same 4 pins for the gooseneck hitch that sits in the same rails. Super neat set up. May not be the best but it works at a reasonable price as compared to the others.

Thanks all for the replies! I am just tinkering around with the idea of a toy box type fifth wheel for weeklong getaways. Still a few years down the road though. :(
