What is the difference in the Poweredge and the EZ. What's the difference in these and the VA. What all does the EZ come with. Does it come with a different elbow or what? New guy trying to get educated on all this before BOMBING.

Thanks!

Hey Will,

In a nutshell

The VA is timing and fueling starting right off idle, and does not have a boost module. It is a snap to install. It adds around 60hp I believe.

The EZ is timing, mild fueling and has a boost module & elbow. It has 3 settings to change the aggressiveness of the fueling, which kicks in around 1700rpm. It is also very easy to install. Someone else can fill you in on the fine details that knows more about the PE products. I tried both the EZ and VA recently and was more impressed with the VA. It gave smoother power and more responsive off-line. Not much smoke with RV injectors and EGTs maxed under 1100 (used in conjunction with my Practical Solutions boost module). The EZ worked great too but made my engine sound like it was cold even though it was good and warmed up. . . too much combustion clatter. I don't think others experience this often but a few have commmented on increased noise with the EZ.

Vaughn

BTW I'm interested to know what you've done to BOMB that Buick V6. . . I think the 3. 8 is an awesome gasser #ad

I've been pretty impressed with the VA's I've seen #ad
. The VA CPC requires a boost module but sure provides some hoss power across the RPM range. I've just seen them mind you, that's all. I looked at one, just looked. Didn't even touch it.

I asked this very question last week but didnt get much response. It seems the VA has some history and a track record. It was the hottest mod last year. I too would like to hear from others about the pros / cons of the new or old VA's. Any injection pump problems associated with it??

Just installed VA a few weeks ago. Power comes on much earlier in the RPM range, dynoed 240 with winter blend fuel. That is the only mod I've done to date. Works very well, EGT's never top 1050.

DD offers a "box" as well, True Torque I think that is what they call it. How does this compare with an EZ box? I'm looking to install DDII injectors and would like the best box to work with them.

Yeah, I've heard that VA CPC (the older box) is really a good choice. There was a used one for sale in the classifieds. You know I just hear so much about these things..... sometimes I hear voices saying... . "Get a box. Get a box. " I don't even know what a box is, man. But I hear the VA box is a good one. And if you get power across the band (and you will) with a whole lot of low end power you probably want to consider doing that.

I understand the newer van Aakens are milder than the older ones. The one I tried was the original version, which made about the same power as the EZ did set on the hottest setting. The vA shaved a full second off my 0-60 time, from 10 sec. to 9 seconds. It may seem as powerful as the EZ since go-power is there the instant you touch the Go Pedal.

Since the EZ comes with a boost module, I think if you are going to compare performance of the box, the VA needs to have a PS boost installed. Understand it will add to the cost of the VA setup, but I bet power is about the same. Dunno - could be wrong.

DavidTD, I will second that. I think that the VA when used with a boost module will be as strong as an EZ is, and probably stronger in the low end. Also with the flavor-of-the-month club there are some VA's out there for reasonable prices cancelling the added cost of a boost module.

Most people who've compared the EZ and VA side by side at the same time usually end up picking the EZ because it produces more power. The VA is more conservative in it's settings than the EZ, which gives 3 different settings to choose from. The DD box is in fact an EZ with different settings optimized for DD's injectors.

I asked Brett, from Edge Products, how conservative the EZ settings actually are. His answer was that the EZ is getting the maximum amount of power that any of that type of box can achieve. I believe him.

If you have the original VA (BD Plug N Power), and want to run it on an ETH/DEE -- keep it! When I made the move to the ETH/DEE club, I e-mailed BD to see if I could run my original VA on the ETH. I was emailed back that I would need the new HO BD Plug n Power. So I sold my original (enjoy JNutter) and anxiously awaited the new truck. As time progress, BD changed its standing and the original can be used on the ETH. I've been in contact with BD, about the mis-information. BD said they would take care of me, well I'm still waiting. Supposedly the Plug N Play is being redesigned with a boost module built in??? That was the last correspondence I received from them 3 weeks ago... had to vent alittle!

The BD Plug N Play 60 hp gain is measured at the flywheel, NOT rear wheels.

I think they are all excellent products, just who you are comfortable dealing with...

Sorry can't help with the comparison. All I can tell you is that after having the VA on for 25,000 plus miles I am very happy. With the auto at 75 down the highway you can pass with ease and still have a lot of power left. Have done very light pulling and can tell a difference. For me when I lock up in fourth I ease off the fuel just a bit otherwise if pushing too hard it feels like it tries to slip the transmission. No regrets.

There is enought above about the EZ and VA so I thought I would add a little about the Power Edge. It is a fueling box with a boost module built in. It has three levels of fueling that are adjusted on the box by holding the button on it down. It is also programable (By Edge only) and can be set for some insane fueling. If you see people refering to a HOT edge it is reprogramed. Just to make things more confusing Edge is soon releasing the Power Edge Pro (I think that is what it is called) and it will be an EZ and PE combined in one box.

As for the flavor of the month, I bought my PE first because it contained a boost module and the rest did not. I have an EZ too and bought it because the PE performed great and Edge customer service was fantastic.

Bent6 (Will) - Along with what I said in my e-mail, let me add that one of the first things you should do is get the VB/TC replaced. When I did this it felt like I gained a bunch of HP. Dyno results have shown up to 25 RWHP increase with just that. Then you can add boxes and injectors.

The new Edge box is supposed to have a RS232 port which will allow it to be programed by a computer. All the Edge boxes will have this feature eventually.
