Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Catch can

zero fuel pressure

When I had my 24 valve I had the BD low fuel pressure light. Easy instal. What you propose indicates the pump has power but doesn’t confirm the pump works.

Just my 2 cents

Anyone ever add an indicator light off the fuel pump hot wire to your dashboard to show you've got power to f/p?

That would certainly be easy enough to do - just tap into the hot wire feeding the lift pump and run the wire to a dash mounted LED lamp and provide a ground.

However, I agree with @Nigel . There is more value in using a low fuel pressure switch that activates a warning light. If fuel pressure is below a preset value, or is at 0 psi, the lamp will light, regardless of whether or not it is an electrical failure or a mechanical failure. This is what you want to know.

The other benefit is that you will get a bulb prove-out each time you turn the key to the run position - the rest of the time the bulb will not illuminate. I, also have installed a low fuel pressure warning light on my second generation truck.

Also, in general, a lamp that is always illuminated with the engine running is less likely to be noticed when it stops illuminating, whereas a lamp that is never illuminated with the engine running will very likely be noticed immediately when it illuminates.

Good points, I have already installed an ISSPRO f/p gauge but I'm trying to figure out why I have no f/p after installing new FASS DRP-02 a month and a half ago and only 3500 miles. I did check the lead for power which it does have. So I either have a faulty new pump of something upline clogging the fuel input line which is gong to be a PIA to check. Should have located the pump on the frame rail for easier access.

Check that the fuel lift pump has a proper ground as well. Is the fuel lift pump still wired the same as factory? If so, the pump could be putting a strain on the ECM since the ECM is the lift pump's power source.

I used the original 2 wire fuel pump lead to power the pump (been working for last 3500 miles) which i I checked with a test light that lit up when I bumped the starter,

You will want to add a separate power source and use the original wires to run a relay.
