Exide makes a version of the Optima called the orbiter. Its basically the same thing with the spiral celled plating. One for my camper cost me a little over one bill at the local parts guy.
both batteries went dead on my 98. 5 3 weeks ago at 34000 miles (27 months old). Even though they said maintenance free, do not remove covers, I forced them off. There was no water. After filling with filtered water and jumping them, the came back to life a work as good as new. Are all of these dead batteries mentioned in earlier postings still dead after re-filling or are they being replaced without doing so?
After following numerous battery threads, I decided to go with the Optima Redtops via Interstate battery. The local distributer conveniently located about two miles away from me sold them to me for 115 per. Unless the previous owner had DC replace the batteries under warranty, I assume my old batteries were original on my 97' with 90k miles.
Batts were replaced less than a year old. Free under warranty. Will continue to get the free ones until, well no longer free. Then will obviously try another brand. #ad
You still need two,but I have to wonder if you ever needed two in LV. The second battery is mainly for the manifold heater,it will crank and start fine on one battery. Only problem is that you won't be able to leave town for some place cooler.
a pair of DuraLast Golds 8Jan2k OEMs lasted about 50K and at that time I'd had the truck for about 21months----these also are free replacement for 36mo. and prorated after that for an addn'l 60mo--total 96mo. . beginning to crank a little slow, even w/ just 40-60*F overnite temps. It's not cold weather that destroys-em. its the summer heat that cripples them. the cold just pushes'em over the edge. ---if "America's Landfill" is a hot climate, just keep your favorite battery wrench handy #ad
I went out one day this summer and it was dead. It jumped right away. I took to DC for some routine stuff and asked them to do a load test. They had 32k on them, I picked up the truck and they had installed 2 new ones under warranty no questions asked.
