I just bought a new to me canopy. I read in the owners manual that there is a connector for brake and dome lights for campers and caps under the brake booster. I tested the two plugs I found, but neither seem to be the one I'm looking for. Can anyone help?

Mine is just tapped into the brake on the back drivers side tail lamp. I also went down to the tow harness for the constant hot for the dome light. and went to the frame with the ground. I found that is the simplest way and it also lets you "Hide" the pigtail when you take the topper off in the rear corner out of harms way. Take out the tail light and you will see what I mean. If you need colors and exact locations just let me know.

Take care

Mark

Not sure which year the change happened but on earlier models you have to tap into the brake light under the dash. If you tap in at the back of the truck the canopy's brake light will flash with the turn signals.

The wire for the brake light you are looking for is white with a tan stripe. It's should be able to be seen right next to, and under the steering column. If it isn't there it will be back inside the frame by the LR frame rail between the spare and the bumper. You will see the single wire in plain view. You can locate a single scothchlock wire tap there with a fuse and run a single wire all the way back to the canopy. You should minimumly use heatshrink over uninsulated butt connectors and rustprevenative. Pick up a ground in the tail light area. You can also wire in a quick disconnect where the shell and the bed meet to ease in removal.

You can tap for this brake wire (white w/ tan stripe) anywhere and you will not mess up the brake controller. As far as running a wire to the interior light you can pick up a hot wire feed at the rear either off of the taillight, or the hot feed if you have a trailer tow package. You'll be best off to use a single lead test light probe to check wires. You may also run a wire all the way up to the battery, locate a fuse, and run a wire all the way back in split loom, tieing it back securely inside the frame.

Thanks Crazy Horse. I got the power and ground easy enough. I tapped the brake wire now that I know the color. I just couldn't get a ground for my test light to find it. I used a four flat plug between the cab and bed for quick disconnect. Again, thanks.
