Wondering by during the build process on the RAM website, selecting the deployable steps switches the Laramie Equipment Group from Level A to Level B. The website also references needing the U-Connect 5 is needed with the deployable steps. Anyone have experience with this they can share? If you have the factory deployable steps, how do they compare to the AMP aftermarket steps?

That's just how Ram decided to configure things...if you want power steps you have to get equip group B (or 2), and that group also includes Uconnect 5. Sorry, I haven't compared the factory power option to Amp's.

Having the Amp steps ,they would be hard to beat . My son has run them for several years on his work truck ,and they have been flawless, they get used several times a day, he's in ,and out of that truck . Amp has a decent warranty ,but those factory will also .

All Laramie trucks get Uconnect 5. There are 3 versions; 8.4”, 8.4” Nav, 12” Nav.

There are several options that dictate a specific Laramie level package.

When I ordered my 2020 Ram Laramie, I wanted the deployable steps. But as you discovered, you have to switch to Laramie B package to get the step option. All me and the dealer could see different, is the software in Uconnect is different on Laramie A and B. The B software adds a setting to turn the steps on and off, it's not in the A settings. Since I didn't want to spend a couple thousand more for the B package, then another thousand for the factory steps, I bought the Amp steps. They are awesome! I recently swapped them from my 2020 to my 2022, still working perfect. In fact, I found a website, Electricstep.com, that sells the Amp steps, and all the parts for them. They even had a hardware kit that I bought with the crush nuts you use to hold the steps to thew body. You have to leave the original crush nuts embedded on the truck when you take the steps off.

The only problem with Amp steps is they are now on national backorder, no idea when they will be available.

I was pretty lucky getting them. ( Amp ) I happened to be sitting in a waiting room ,looking at local classifieds on my phone when they popped up as a new item. Brand new ,never been out of the box for $800. My son has a 2022 on order ,he ordered the auto steps .
