So yesterday while cleaning the inside of the the truck I removed the Jack cover under the passenger seat. Quite surprised to find that the bottom of the Jack was starting to rust. I noticed there was a wing nut to the left of the Jack. Looking under the truck the threaded portion of this retainer extends through the cab floor and are exposed to the elements under the truck. I attempted to remove the wing nut thinking I would need to do so to use the Jack and it was rusted in place. WOW-if the wife was out and had a flat she would not be able to make the repair because of this wing nut. Considering this will normally only be removed in an emergency it really needs to operate freely.

Needless to say I removed the wing nut with a pair of pliers (15 minutes turning back and forth and lots of WD-40) and coated the threads with waterproof grease.

I just thought you may want to check yours to avoid making a rough time rougher:rolleyes:

On my dually all the tools are accessed without ever touching the wing nut. Nothing is held in place by that wing nut in relation to tool or jack removal. Mine is a 15 so maybe they are different. Maybe locktite was used so that the tool mount never rattled loose and created a situation where the jack and tools become free in the cab?

Same here. Just loosen the jack by turning the loosening (lefty loosey) or "lowering" the jack so that it is not putting pressure between its mounts. All of the handles/extensions just pop out of their plastic gromets.

That's good to know. I could see some poor fella stuck on side of the road because this thing was rusted in place because we don't think about it until we need it.

Thanks all,
