I am placing an order for an 03 and I'd like to know what the Factory installed Soft Tonneau Cover is like. If you have one,

What is your opinion of it?

How is the frame mounted?

How does it fasten to the frame? Snaps, velcro? what?

Is it easy to remove if you need the bed open?

If you have one would you please post some pictures showing some details.

Thanks, Don

I like it

Frame is mounted with clamps. No holes in body.

A stiff plastic strip sewn into the perimeter seam slips into a slot in the rail. Easy to remove and easy to reinstall.

Just pull it up at the corners and pull the plastic strip out of the rail and roll it up if you need the bed. The hole system can be revoved in less then three minutes by undoing the six latches and lifting the whole thing off the truck.

No pics of tonneau details. Truck is under a cover which has about 5 inches of ice and snow on it. Perhaps one of our southern subscribers can post a few pictures.

The cover fits well especially on the slightly curved edges of the box front and tailgate. Order it on the truck. Way cheaper than getting it aftermarket. Also it is warranteed for full three years that way.

My two Canadian cents.

Thanks Casey. Sounds like the type I am looking for. I would really appreciate it if some one could post pics of the clamping system. One other question, how high is the arch in the bows? For me, the flatter it is, the better I like the appearance.

The wait begins... Flame Red 3500 QC 160WB SRW 4WD Sport HO w/48RE (yes, the dealer took the order, no they could not put it through yet). Don

The bows are pretty flat. Maybe an inch or so rise in the centre. Certainly not like some I have seen. And at least it will do up in colder weather. If it warms up a bit, I will get you some pictures. 5 degrees when I left for work this morning. Brrrrrr.

Cheers, Casey

Definitely the one option I wish I had gotten that I didn't. . Oh well. I'll probably end up ordering one from the dealer if it fits so well.

2 cents Canadian ?

That's not worth very much is it. You might want to start giving about... ... correction aboot 4 cents worth.

BTW Casey why is it out in the snow and not in the Bat Cave?:-laf :-laf :-laf

Fireman;)

Factory Cover

I put one on my 2002 new style 1500 short bed. That thing really sucked! Not enough bow in the cover. First rain storm we had and it fill up the center with water. Then I went away for several days last week, the leaves fell and it rained. Cover colapsed, bent all the cross rails down ans pulled the end rails in. Took the truck back to the dealer and they replaced it with an Extang cover. Also refunded me some money as the aftermarket was cheeper than the MOPAR cover. The Extang fits nicer and has way more bow. Also it snaps on all the way around so you can remove it completely to haul stuff or you can just roll it up to the cab.

Looks better made than the MOPAR also. Cost was $185. 00 installed.
