Factory tach mounting

How were the tachs mounted in a first gen, screwed/ bolted down to dash or what? Trying to decide where exactly to put my 3 3/8" tach, have a cup mount, but don't want to screw into my flawless dash. Thinking of screwing the mount into a pillar above dash/ below 2 pod a pillar set up. Ideas?

Thinking about that way also. Tach is a bigger unit, but I think I can get on there with out blocking too much else.

The factory tach requires 3 holes to be drilled into the the dash, 2 for mounting studs & 1 for the wiring.

Wirnig CAN br run between the dash and a-pillar, leaving you only holes for tach mounting.
