How can I tell what tires my truck came with? The sticker on the door post says 245's but their are 265's on it now. I only ask because when cruising at 75 mph I am at about 2600 rpms. That seemed a little high to me and was wondering if maybe my speedo was off.

1997 2500 4x4 5-speed 4. 10's

I have a '96 like yours with the 4. 10 rear - the original tires were 245's. After the stocks tires wore out (which did not take long) I went to 285-75R16's now at 75 I am turning about 2250-2300 RPMs. With the 4. 10 rear larger tires help in lowering RPMs at highway cruise meaning better fuel economy.

fishjack1-Thanks for the reply. When I get some more money I will switch to new wheels and some 305/70's which will hopefully lower my cruising rpm's.

Does anyone know how I can figure how far off my speedo will be after I change tires?

Are you using the stock rims? My truck's sticker says it came with 225/75's on 6. 5" rims. It has 235/85's on it now and when those wear out I was thinking of going with either 255/85's or 285/75's. A couple of my local tire dealers think the 285's might be too wide. I wondering if you had any problems.

Thanks.

Sam,

My last 3 sets of tires have been 285-75R16 on my stock rims. No problems whatsoever. I have had good luck with the Bridgestone Deuler AT's.

I may go to 305's next but they are not that much taller, just wider than the 285's and 285's are the biggest Deulers Bridgestone makes.

My truck had the same thing (245 on door 265 on truck). I went to the local D/C dealer and asked for a build sheet which they printed out and my truck had the optional 265 tire package.
