I'm going to make my air darn (see separate post) available with cutouts for the OEM tow hooks. I need to know where they are located, along the factory plastic air dam. On the plastic piece on my truck, there is a slightly raised border where it looks like they would be. Is this correct? Do they need the entire cutout, or could I slim the holes down a little?

Hoping people could give me dimensions, pictures, etc. Then I could send a paper template to verify my cutouts.

Please help, and thanks.

That raised border is for the tow hook cutouts. A little "slimming" might be possible, but you might also run into a tolerance problem.

I mounted a set of OEM towhooks and found that, when installed according to instructions, the clearances on the left and right hooks were different. I solved my problem with shimming. However, slight differences in alignment of the hooks will be more apparent with narrow openings than with wider openings.

Air Darn...

I am one with the factory tow hooks and would stay with the outline on the on the factory air dam. Sam

How much do the factory hooks cost? I would like to add a pair myself. After all, a 4x4 vehicle should come standard with these for all of the Phord drivers out there that get in the way. :D :D

Mounting

Next question,

How/where do the tow hooks mount to the frame? Could someone explain, or better, take a picture from underneath?

I am also looking to offer a plate for mounting driving lights. I wonder which factory holes are still available.

Thanks.

get new front bumper

My thoughts. My father has a ford PSD and I felt like dirt when he pulled me out of an embankment while loading firewood up in the woods. He had the nice stock front bumper tow hooks and I only had a piece of plastic held on by plastic coated rivets. Well guess what happened when being pulled at a very sharp angle. Off pops rivets and white hairline crack in gray plastic air darn. What a real blunder on Dodges engineers. Well this person lives about 1. 5 hours from where I live in Indiana makes an awesome bumper with 2" reciever and 2 heavy duty d hooks for front bumpers. Looks good. If you email him, he will send you pictures of it. His email is

-- email address removed --.

Cost is $500 without fog lights and $600 with, but the bumper is now forged steel and bolted on using factory holes without plastic rivets anywhere. Weight is 100#

I'm definetly getting mine ordered because my front bumper looks cheap as it always did.
