Hi,I have a 2012 Ram 3500 dually just installed hydraulic over electric brakes put on our Landmark 5th wheel, the gain is set on 8 put there ain't much happen when you apply the brakes manually,is there more than just the gain setting on the controller that I am missing,or should I just keep uppen the gain setting? I know on my prodigy that I had on my 05 had a couple of different setting but I don't know about this factory one,Any comments would be appreciated,Thx,Terry

I would start with checking that the brakes are ajusted, then make sure you have all the air out of the lines. And check your owners manual to make sure that your brake controles will work on electric over hydraulic brakes. Some brake controlers have a fuction that checks to make sure that you have a connection. On ones that are not set up electric over hydraulic brakes this fuction will cause a spark on the between the brush and armature every 15 seconds and eventually cause carbon build up on the armature and wreck the motor in the pump. You can sometimes hear the pump make a click sound evert 15 seconds or so, if you hear this you dont have the right controler.

You may have to replace the controller. If it is like my old 2010, there was no setting in the OEM controller for electric over hydraulic, means I would have needed a new controller.

If you go through the system setup, you should find ITBC settings for electric-over-hydraulic (light) and electric-over-hydraulic (heavy). Since you changed over from electric drum to electric-over-hydraulic discs, you need to change the ITBC setup to reflect this change. This feature was not available on the 2010 and 2011 ITBCs.

Your trailer brakes are electric-over-hydraulic, not hydraulic-over-electric. The hydraulic system is activated by an electric signal from the ITBC, so the electrics are over the hydraulics.

If you haven't, you will need to change the settings for electric over hydraulic on your vehicle. I have a 2015 3500 SRW and had to go into setting on my 8.4 system. I believe all the vehicles have the standard setup for just the electric braking, so you can select electric/hydraulic and even set for medium or heavy loads.

OK madhatter you lost me with the quote about 8.4 system, our so called owners manual and cd leave a lot to be desired. Thx Terry

Terry,

On your 2012, you may be able to access this through the steering wheel controls (arrows) for the electronic vehicle information center (EVIC) located between the speedometer and tachometer. I think you can arrow down to System Setup and access the ITBC settings there. Perhaps someone with a 2012 can give better instructions - my 2011 doesn't have the ITBC setup feature.

Rusty is right, use the set-up feature. It is at the bottom of the menu and offers light and heavy.

One item for EOH is there will be a delay while the motor spools up to provide pressure.

Ok guys thx for the comments,in my CRS column I finally remember where to look, got the controller set for E over H heavy side fiver weights 16000,will pull her out of the barn tomorrow and give her a spin.Thx again Terry
