Does anyone have an explanation of why the factory warranty doesn't fallow a truck originally purchased in Canada then resold in Washington? I bought a used 2015 Ram 3500, six speed with 16,00 miles on
it. The dealership told me the factory warranty isn't valid in the US because it was first sold in Canada. does this make any sense? Wondering?

An old article but still rings true...gray market vehicles is the term as they're brought in from Canada...they can be a great deal if you don't mind getting a non-warranty vehicle however the resale can take a hit if you ever try to sell in the U.S. as the title - for most states - clearly states gray market.

We had the same thing in Alaska as it was cheaper to buy a vehicle from Whitehorse than it was from Anchorage or Fairbanks. A method by the Manufacturers to protect prices in the U.S.

Agree. We had a dealer in Anchorage named Lyberger's who was notorious for selling gray market (Canadian) vehicles - almost exclusively. They were typically current or last year's models with 600 to 1000 miles on them. You could save thousands off a vehicle if you didn't mind not having a warranty nor being able to obtain an aftermarket warranty for your vehicle. There is nothing wrong with them other than the fact they simply aren't backed by the manufacturer warranty.

It is only to protect the US dealers from unfair competition. It used to be a big bone of contention with the US dealers but since they killed the warranty the dealers quit making noise.

On another note the US dealers will not even honor the recall notices that FCA sends out on the Canadian trucks. My younger son but a 2013.5 truck used from a car dealer in Iowa that was a Canadian truck. The truck had 38,000 miles on the OD so he knew the new truck warranty was used up so, no warranty was not an issue. But he has received several recall notices such as the water pump and the emission issues that that year had. Will the US dealers will not honor the recall notice at least in our area! The emission issues have been resolved with the addition of EFI Live and a Edge Insight monitor. The truck runs great and fuel mileage has been improved over the stock truck.
