Well to add to the problems,,,my truck failed the emmission test today,,,oppacity snap test,,scored 53%,,,max is set at 40% for my 96 truck. .

I have a DD fuel plate slid forward and the AFC spring loosened right up. .

Any tips before i test again. .

I did move the AFC housing all the way back and tighened up on the star wheel... but the truck really sucks to drive,,,if i give it too much pedal it falls on its face big time until boost slowly builds. .

Any ideas????

Thanks to Keith at Diesel Dynamics for all the great help.

You should be fine now,go retest, then put the AFC housing, and start wheel back. Id also put a full dose of standyne fuel additive,it really reduces smoke. It may help you get past that test.

I just passed last week on the same test. I scored a 4. 9%. I have 370's and #11 plate full forward. I did spin the star-wheel in about half the way before I tested.

Do they let you sit in the drivers seat and do the test yourself? Here they give you the option. I always do it myself. I also ease into the go-peddle instead of slamming it to the floor. The smoke-sniffers have no clue. :D

Thanks for all your help. .

I did as Keith at Diesel Dymanics suggested and moved the housing back and tightened the star wheel. . passed with 2. 5 %...

down from 53%... the truck sucks to drive though. .

thanks to everyone...

Only test they do where I live is checking your brake lights and turn signals. Should be the same test for everyone or no test at all :(

Disconnecting the boost line will not help. The snap test is checking for smoke / fuel before boost comes into play. Just adjust the AFC until you do not see any smoke, and your driving performance sucks, and then you have it. Snap tests are very liberal, so if you adjust it for low to none visual smoke it will pass, easy. Diesel emissions and performance are a direct trade off.
