Flashing AC and Defroster Lights

Alrighty... . Sooooo I'm driving down the road and I notice that its getting very cold in my truck. I look down and the lights next to the ac and mirror defroster buttons are flashing at me. So I reach and turn the temperature knob to the highest heat setting and then it gets even colder. So I turn it all the way to the coldest setting and then the thing roasts me out. Plus my temperature reading on my overhead console just has two lines... For a while it said -40 degrees both on F and C. Any Ideas??:confused:

When a temperature circuit goes "open", it will display a -40' because of the resistance of the temperature sending unit. They flashing lights are likely just a default action when the system has no reference and to tell you there is a problem. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the idea. I guess I'll search around for an answer to the temperature display problem and maybe someone will throw in 2 cents worth of info on my other problem. Although the "twilight zone" theory sounds promising!!

I checked the temp sensor with an ohm meter, first by looking for change when i put my fingers around the sensor, and also by using freeze spray, dropping the temp on the sensor to -4 degrees. I got readings using both methods, so I assume the sensor is working properly without knowing what the values of operation actually are.

I talked to a tech at the local dodge dealer and he suggested the tsb 08-026-26, which they didnt have access to yet. So I'm no closer to figuring out whats wrong with my overhead console temp gauge, nor am I any closer to finding out whats wrong with my HVAC unit. :{

**Small Note** At the time of my climate control going bonkers, I was using my titan 2-way, which is cranking out 135 watts. But out of thousands of installs, not once has there been a problem with RF. **End Note**

You need a DRBIII to scan the HVAC and overhead modules for codes. I think the blinking buttons are an indicator that there is a fault in the system.

After a visit to the local dodge dealer this morning, I was sure they'd figure out what's been going on. Kept checking in and still nothing. 430 and they decide to tell me my climate control module is bad, and might be causing the problem with the temp. $160 and they don't have one. Quick run to the salvage yard and $40 later all my climate functions are working. The temp still reads 2 dashes, so I'm not sure on that yet. With one problem out of the way, I'm still looking for an answer to the temp reading on the overhead console. Dealer said the sensor was okay. Thoughts???

I ran 400w for a long time, I'm doing closer to 1kw now with no issues.

I call the "--" from the overhead the "blank stare". I get it every once in awhile, but it has always reset itself on the next startup.
