Well my clutch fan locked up and I need a new one. Do yall think a performance one would be better? I either want a cheap one or a performance one. What are the benefits. I found a stock one for $200. What will a horten generally run? Are they worth it?

Thanks

Rick

I have had horrible luck with napa fan clutches, three in 60k on my '88 Dakota, three in about the same miles on my brothers '89 Pathfinder. These were supposed to be the highest grade they sell but they did keep warranting them. Brother ended up getting one from Nissan, no more problems when he sold it 120k later.

Dam, I need one too, but NAPA online wants way more than you guys are talking about. Clipped this:

Keyword Search >> fan clutch >> Fan Clutch

Vehicle: 1999 >> Dodge Truck >> Ram 3500 1 Ton - Pickup >> 5. 9 L 360 CID V8

What NAPA you all getting them for $50-$80 from? I'll go there.

Might want to do another search using the cummins engine, may not be cheaper but will be correct.

Good luck,

Bill

That's the only 5. 9L they had listed, I questioned the V-8 myself, figured they just entered the description wrong. But I will see what I can come up with.

Wasting our money if we buy napa fan clutches, I like napa products, but have seen alot of napa fan clutches junk out of the box. I'd like to see how much a horton costs. If your gonna do it, might as well do it right the first time. I figure either Mopar or no-par. These prices are from Dodgeparts.com 94 3500 list $136. yours $106. 08. 98 2500 12V list $150. yours $117. S/H 6% total. I bought a fan clutch from there for my 89 and has worked great. I think it was around $100, napa wanted near $80. Bill

If it's for your '94 and the original one is in place, you'll need to update the fan too. There were a bunch of failures (I never heard of one) and the new clutch doesn't work with the old fan, I heard that they made it not fit together. The "package" was over $200 from our dealer who gives TDR a good discount. I went to NAPA and it was in the $70 range because you could get just the clutch.

You might want to take your fan off and inspect it for cracks before you make a decision.

I'd like a Horton but like Bill, I'd expect a precious metal coating or an installation by a Hooters pit crew or something.

Horton, me 2! But at $795, best price I've seen, I guess I'll put my money in a custom aluminum radiator and just replace the old viscous clutch when it quits. This rate I'll never get a hauler body.
