Fan Clutch

The fan clutch wires somehow got into the fan and were shredded on my 2003 Dodge with the stock fan. Dealer wants nearly $500 to fix it. Wrecking yard wants $145 for an '04 clutch assembly. Has anyone else had the fan clutch wires get into the fan? Any ideas or suggestions on how to keep this from happening again since the clearances are minimal?

The wiring to the clutch is supposed to run inside a molded plastic tube which, in turn, fits into a pocket molded into the plastic radiator shroud.

Perhaps you're missing these bits?

Make sure the push pins holding the bottom part of the shroud are nice and tight, that way there should not be any slop between the "pocket" and the shroud. What were you doing when they got caught in the fan?

Mine is bad on my 06'. Parts are on backorder. It's been nearly two weeks. I never did see where the wires are rubbing the fan.
