After my 03 gets warmed up the fan clutch wants to engage at every start while driving in town. If you let off on the accelerator the roar will leave but as soon as you step on it again it will roar. This happens with every stop and start. No problem highway driving but a pain in the --- in town. Never had one do this before. Normal for the 03?

Thanks : Bob

The '03 controls the fan clutch with the PCM. A/C head pressure will tell it to come on at about every stop light. It doesn't have to be too hot outside. Mine cycles alot but hasn't caused any pain in my tail. It's a good setup. Kinda like a Horton except you get some airflow to the transmission cooler, power steering cooler, a/c condensor, and intercooler while it's "almost" desengaged and when it kicks on it's smooth. I like it.

It's totally normal any time the AC is on even with the defrost in winter. Starts on warm days always seem to kick it on.

The only time I find it a pain is when I am in a dusty parking area, then it gives me a "James Bond 007" effect. :D

You can use it to cool your engine and turbo faster on a warm day just turn on the AC at idle during cool down and the fan will drop the temps twice as fast.

Paging Steve M - are you sure about the PCM control?

Mine behaves as described in this thread but I am not sure about PCM controlling the clutch - I cannot find any wires leading to it at the fan or at the belt.

How is the PCM controlling the fan?

With no AC on mine did it today and it wasn't what I would call warm out. There must be a sensor deep in the engine telling the fan clutch "I am hot and I need to cool off"

The check gauges light blinked at me twice on the drive home I think she has a thing for me.

BVK and anyone else, crawl under the front of truck and toward the passenger side of the fan shroud you will see the electrical connections leading up to the fan hub/ clutch assembly. Sure hope that thing is sturdy, hate to see what happens if that was to break loose and get caught in the fan !!!

Mine does this when warm, AC off even. I thought that it was the source of the famous 2000 grown this summer when I was drining in 100+ degree weather. I still am wondering if it isnt the fan spinning fast that makes this sound as there still seems to be no solid answer for this.
