Turbo Whistle

Engine stumble

A few weeks ago my truck, on acceleration, sounds like its turning higher rpm's than it should but its not. It just sounds like a fan blowing or something. Its not the turbo whine, it just sounds like the fan. The first time it did it was after I had the oil changed. Later that day I was towing my 5th whl and had traveled about 20 miles and was pulling over to fuel up. It has done it a couple of times in the mornings as well not towing. It almost feels like a loss of power when it does it, but its not turning higher rpms than the speed I am running. If it was then I would assume the clutch. Sounds confusing. Any suggestions? Thanks.

It scares the I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER out of you the first time it happens. The short time I was in between vehicles I had my buddy pull my 11,000lb trailer to the dunes with his '02 Super Duty with 800 miles on it. He was still getting used to the truck (and this was the first trailer he pulled). It was about 5:30am and he was half asleep and hit the only hill going to the Imperial Sand Dunes in O/D and when the fan kicked in he thought his engine was toast for a split second until I told him what it was. :)

When my fan kicked in for the firt time with my CTD, it caught me off guard also; but I knew what it was after the initial shock of getting stranded in the middle of the desert in 100 degree weather wore off.
