I left work tonight and got a mile away when my check engine light came on. Then I noticed my voltage dropping and my temp rising. Luckily a co-worker/buddy was in front of me. So we pop the hood and notice the belt is shredded bad! It's wrapped around everything. So he take's me home and I get some tool's and a new belt and head back to fix it. After untangling the mess I notice the pulley that's attatched behind the fan is loose. Long story short, I pulled my radiator and the fan assembly out tonight to find all 6 bolt's are gone, not broke off but gone!? Well since all that stuff's out I proceded to degrease my plugged oily radiator that I planned on doing at a later date but found myself doing thing's a little earlier now. I guess I'll fix my leaky washer bottle and extend my blow-by hose also while I've got it tore apart. Has anyone heard of these bolt's just falling out? It's kind of odd! I did notice this morning when I shut my truck off at work, I didn't hear the normal chirp from the belt, so I must have lost it on the way in. I guess it's something to check if you have time. The bolt's are 10mm. Hope knowbody else has this!

No I have never heard of any of the fan bolts for the pulley falling out before glad that you only had minor damage and you weren't stranded on the side of the road #@$%!#@$%!#@$%!#@$%!

hope you loc-tited the bolts when you replaced them :eek::eek:

No, I never did have fan pulley bolts disappear, but I did have two exhaust manifold bolts missing and a third was on its way to disappearing.

I put my truck back together tonight and degreased the radiator, motor, and attempted to fix my leaking washer bottle, but apparantely fixed the wrong spot... ... ... it still leak's:mad:. I did put new bolt's in and loc-tite on every bolt I took out. I can actually feel air blowing through my radiator now! Yeah, I'm glad nothing was damaged. It could have been worse. Anyway's, back to normal, just thought I'd point out a potential problem other's might be able to avoid!:)

Holy cow! I had this same thing happen to me also! I was 100 miles from home when it happened. It cost me 200 bucks to get towed home. I tried to rig something to turn the water pump to make it without being towed but I couldnt find anything. I was sitting at a gas station when I heard a thump. When I looked I did not see anything but as soon as I drove off thats when all the dash lights lit up like a Christmas tree. I did find the samething when I opened the hood, the belt all shreaded around all the pulleys. It took me most of the following day to get it back together.

Where did the thump seem to come from? I seem to remember a thump right after I started my truck, which seemed to come from the passenger floor board. It sounded like a blend door slamming open or something. The only damage I found was a slight rip in my hood insulation. That's weird that your truck is an '01 also. I wonder who else has heard or had this happen?
