I have an 01 truck. This week end the fan for the heating and airconditioning will run only when the switch to control the speed is set for the highest speed. On any other speed the fan will not run. I presume the fault is in the switch not the fan.

TIA

Do a search on my name and look at the

Fan issues..... Just so you know-----

1. You have a fan resistor that is out! It is in the fan housing and it also has probably killed the fan motor as well. I picked one up at a wrecking yard.

2. Now - it is slightly tricky to get the resistor out and in - small hands help a lot..... BUT when you take the motor out - you'll have to remove a protective round plastic cover - sort'a looks like a hat over the motor. DO NOT PUT IT BACK ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am convinced it overheats the motor! If you look at it, you'll discover that it also has an air-vent tube to keep tha fan motor cool. Now if you have a sissy gas rig maybe you can hear this fan running with teh cover off BUT not with Mr. C under the hood! Questions email me.

3. Oh BTW - You'll find that the ceramic resistor block - if memory serves me well - is about 3/4 " wide - 3/3 " deep and maybe 2 3/4" long and looks like a piece that Thomas Edison would have used! It will probably be cracked and the contacts melted!

hammersly, thanks for the information and link. I have not checked my repair manual yet, but how difficult is it to get to the fan to do the repair?

Thank you.

I replaced my motor and bought a $70 resistor to fix my problem but it only lasted 6 days and burned the resistor up again. Been running on high all summer. Any ideas on what I could check? I don't want to buy another resistor till I figure out why they keep burning up.

Not sure on the 94

in other words I don't know if they used the same setup - but on mine - you must not put that insulated cover back on... .....

I DON'T REMEMBER ANY COVER, JUST MAYBE A VERY SMALL PEICE OF STYRO FOAM UP AGAINST THE MOTOR. NOTHING ELSE OR ANYTHING ON THE RESISTOR. i'M NOT VERY GOOD WHEN IT COMES TO ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS, BUT WOULD THE RESISTOR BURN UP BECAUSE THE FAN PULLS TOO MUCH JUICE AND MAKES THE RESISTOR GET EXTRA HOT?
